I've ordered a Pheonix VPS but it's pending for a long time (~1h).
Is it normal? (I am an active customer with an active VPS in Amsterdam)

maybe you used a 3 char or less hostname, they need to be rfc compliant, I will go through all pending orders within the next 30 minutes or so (there are a lot)

Which RFC are you talking about?
Hostname Wikipedia page says each label is between 1 and 63 characters.
    What's wrong with a 3-char hostname?

  • Ordered a 2 x vCPU, 2 GB RAM KVM plan yesterday.
Unfortunately it doesn't support Windows installation. Very disappointed.

It has been about 6 years since I had this conversation in any detail, I have hand written a note in my magical unicorn notepad to get back to you on that when the madness ends.

@frog please open a ticket so I can fix your CPU configuration, you should not be seeing qemu, passthrough is enabled as standard and your performance will be getting crippled due to emulation overhead.

Why do peple keep thinking that we're some copyright ignoring banana republic? You'll get BREIN up your ass then. They were the ones who caused two large ISP's (Ziggo & XS4ALL) to completely block aceess to TPB and TPB proxy sites via a court order. Yes, even we use a VPN to get avoid getting caught by them while seeding.

  • is it 40 GB Disk, 6000 GB Bandwidth?
I still see 20 GB Disk, 3000 GB Bandwidth on the 1GB plan.

Because historically a lot of piracy has been hosted in The Netherlands, and still is. Along with Sweden, one could argue that The Netherlands has been the most notorious country regarding piracy in the modern story of the Internet.

    Just some examples:

    • 50% of Megaupload was hosted at Leaseweb
    • Ecatel still going strong - entire datacenter in Lelystad dedicated to cybercrime which has not been shut down for almost two decades
    • LOTS of scene topsites hosted there (let's not even speak of NFOrce, now a legit ISP)
    • Biggest DDL hoster is based in NL
    • Second biggest porn hoster is based in NL

Yes, BREIN is very active but still The Netherlands has historically been a significant piracy hub.

@Tsuyo said:even we use a VPN to get avoid getting caught by them while seeding.

Coincidentally, it could be possible that your VPN is even hosted at Clouvider, because plenty of VPN providers are with them. It is only a matter of the kind of customer - for someone paying 15€/year they do not want to deal with any abuse trouble, there is no margin for that.

    DOS6.22 bootdisk
    Windows Virtio Drivers v0.1.30
    virtio win 0.1.139
    virtio win2012

Can you show me more detail steps about how to install Windows?
Mount drivers, mount cdrom, and select boot order, Network Card, Disk Driver?

Windows server has had a fairly standard installation path since 2003, mount the ISO, set the server to boot from cd-rom, catch the 'press any key to boot from cd-rom' get to the natural stopping point in the install where you can load drivers, in this case you want to use the drivers tab in the VPS control panel which will switch the CD/DVD ISO's for you, add the drivers for stroage and network (virtio) and then switch the iso back to windows, continue the install.

    Pretty well documented online generally.

No, the copyright law changed in 2014. Before that is was indeed allowed to download a file without any kind of repercussion. There is also a tax being levied on consumer hardware (anything with storage on it, it also used to be levied on blank CD/DVD media but hardly anybody is using that right now) to compensate for the downoading.

Our public prosecution service has already stated that they're not going to prosecute anybody for that, so that's the reason why so many "bulletproof" and regular companies get away with it, while private citizens are in more trouble. A Dutch movie distributor (also aligned with BREIN) started gathering lists of IP addresses who were downloading torrents and trying to find what customers are behind the IP address (they were Ziggo users). And trying to find the names of the customers via a court order. Initially they failed, but later found out what customer was downloading at the time. Those people got a €150 settlement offer. The court held ban (2010) regarding TPB (DNS + IP block, also for new IP addresses and new proxy sites that appear) didn't survive the high court ruling (2014), but was upheld in the court of appeal (2020), so this has become a decade old joke of judges flip-flopping on the ruling.

Yes, BREIN is very active but still The Netherlands has historically been a significant piracy hub.

Hahaha, I just did a traceroute on my VPN IP (one of their servers in Amsterdam). The IP address is hosted by M247. Apparently they are also hosting a lot of other VPN Providers all over Europe.
Or maybe they've routed ther abuse@ mail to /dev/null.
