Legit "unlimited cloud storage" providers?

raindog308raindog308 Administrator, Veteran

What are some services that provide "unlimited storage" (and unlimited bandwidth) at a flat monthly rate? Not looking for "I bought a university account email on eBay" type scenarios but rather "everything is above board".

I'm aware of a couple:

From what I've read, these seem to be legitimate in users' experiences and I think both are in the $60/month range.

Others?

Yes, I'm aware that there are only so many silicon atoms in the universe, "unlimited" doesn't mean "one googol googol googol petabytes", etc.

As chia's pricing comes down to earth people will start abusing these 2 excessively.

It was already a problem before mainnet transactions were starting, but the price is down 75% from peak and the network growth continues.

You're now seeing people on WHT looking for 256GB RAM dedicated servers for < $50/m to chia plot on.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but Backblaze's $5/m backup software gives you unlimited backblaze backup storage (not b2) as far as I know. But that requires you to have a copy of the file locally otherwise after x days it gets deleted

Im using GSuite for Business. Its 8 euro per month iirc and right now I store 34TB :) they say its 1TB per user, but Google doesnt enforce this limit. Many people are waaaay over limit and 0 problems. They have other limitations like 750GB transfer per day, API limit etc.

We all know how Google treats apps/services that dont generate money... so probably it still is profitable for them so they just dont care about exceeding storage limit in Business plan.

Been using them since 4 years now. My desktop & laptop files are all online so even if I'm travelling and need a file from my desktop, I just retrieve it using the mobile app.

1Fichier's Hot storage is still unlimited. You can upload via FTP, WebGUI and some people used Rsync with it. For hot storage to work you'd probably have to find a way to "touch" the files every now and then. Mind you, 1Fichier works very differently to say GDrive, Dropbox etc, so maybe test it first :)

Hot storage? Can you please share more on that? Whats the monthly cost is like?

Last time I checked (not using them anymore atm), hot storage refers to files downloaded at least once every 60 days. If they have not been touched/downloaded for longer than 60 days they count towards cold storage iirc.

1Fichier Premium for 1 year with 2TB cold storage and unlimited hot storage costs 22€/year. You can also add cold storage at 12€/TB/year.

    https://1fichier.com/tarifs.html

Also check my signature for 1Fichier review.

So we can store unlimited at 1Fichier and read few bits of every file to keep those till the service is no more. That is very interesting. Because, I am a current user of gsuite and have a plex library there. I am trying to find alternatives since google announced new plans.

I can have that library at 1Fichier, make it available via rclone and have the plex scan it every day or a week, that will be similar to "touch"

@xetsys rclone does not support 1Fcihier, maybe you can just mount it through FTP option, but likely i don't think it's the best way to use 1Fichier for this kind of storage.

There is an OpenDrive.com with good prices and so on, but they are located in the US, so for Europe, it's not working well due to peering issues(speed and so on).

I am not sure you can use rclone to its' full extent with 1Fichier. Let's just say 1Fichier works differently than e.g. GDrive/Dropbox etc.

I am not sure, I remember @default using 1Fichier in the past, too and thought he dipped into rclone. But perhaps it was also someone else (jetchirag or nulldev come to mind). I never used it with rclone myself. You can also look at https://rclone.org/fichier/

    Correction - I forgot about tax. Its 8.84euro + 23% VAT so I pay 10.87euro per month.

They dont offer GSuite anymore, thats correct. Im using it from 2019. They didn't force me or anyone I know to switch to Workspace so I still use Gsuite :)

there isn't enough popcorn in this world to handle when that happens. The amount of people with a PB+ up there, even on these very forums, is massive.

Haven't used them yet, although considering it.

Just like @plumberg I'm also curious to find out your reasoning on why they're a scam.

Seems like a lot is going for them, just last month they got $1m of seed funding, who would invest so much in a scam?

  • Well just like every other crypto token they will be out of business in 2 years. So asking for 1000$ for lifetime storage is a little much for me.

It's a scam and the owner has spammed/shilled their crap ventures on LET on numerous accounts

    BOX.COM - Unlimited
Do you consider 10TB storage as Unlimited?

Seems like they are based in Valencia. Maybe I'll knock on the door one day (if they dont mind visitors) :D

    ToS state:

Internxt might sometimes offer “infinite” or “unlimited” lifetime memberships. These memberships are regulated under a fair-use policy, under which no user might use above 99999 GB of storage.
