HostGator dedicated

When you visit this: https://www.hostgator.com/dedicated-server

What is your understanding of what they are offering on that page?

Do you understand that you will be getting your own bare-metal server? or you will be getting a VPS with dedicated resources? or something else?

    @SirFoxy

    You found any reference for it being a VDS vs bare-metal or prior experience?

    I didn't see anything alluding to the fact that these are actually VDS plans (OpenStack).

    who would pair an xeon d series with 8gb ram

    Nice catch, these CPUs take up to 128 GBs of RAM.

    Vds is definitely not the same as a dedicated server which, at least to me, means bare metal.

    yeah they want to advertise it as bare metal but go out of their way to keep it vague very eig like

    I’d expect dedicated hardware. If they’re virtualized now that is interesting, they were bare metal when I was there.

    I understood that too, that it is indeed a dedicated server not a VDS. However from what I can tell, it is actually a VDS running on OpenStack.

    This is from their Enterprise dedicated server:

    # dmidecode 3.2

    I guess so but in all fairness it's probably a virt layer over a fully dedicated server. They likely did it for ease of deployment. I know feelings about that vary but IMO as long as it isn't shared I'm comfortable with the language considering the source.

    I say considering the source because I don't think anyone chasing a powerful dedicated server, that would knowingly benefit from bare metal over fully dedicated virtualized hardware, would be shopping at HG.

    This does seem like a bit of waste of power and CPU time, but yeah given it's HG, I don't think many people would care.
