Vanilla 4.0 is out, any users?
Hi everyone,
Hoping to hear some (if there's some out there?) direct user feedback from folks who have tried upgrading from vanilla 3.3 to 4.0? The little feedback that exists on the vanilla forum has plenty of remarks about problems upgrading to 4.0.
I plan to spin up a dev instance to start playing with 4.0 as I'm expecting lots of problems in light of our custom theme, plugins and LET specific code changes.

Please don't change LET web1.0 style. It is fast and light on the eyes. It is perfect.
This is good enough.
The only place I hanged out with old school interface and simpler than WHT.
Please think twice before changing any.
I definitely don't want to change the design and essence of the website. I am a big believe that it is very important.
I do though want to make sure that vulnerabilities are patched and bugs get fixed. No matter what though we won't lose our easy to read design and hopefully you won't notice a difference once we upgrade.
If it will look the same and will feel the same, I say: Give it a shot.
A lot of people (myself included) are incredibly stubborn and will go through great lengths to avoid updated UI changes.
Ex: I still use old.reddit.com because the new design makes me want to gouge my eyes out. It was such a drastic change to what was once a simple site.
I really hope LET transfer to Discourse...
Speaking of "feel", @jbiloh any chance of getting an adaptively wider design?
Never loved fixed width, wastes space for no reason.
Tried the vanilla-core-2021-009 build locally on PHP 8.x to see what changed. Seems like it is not supported on PHP 8.x (too many exceptions and errors)
Going to test on PHP 7.x now
If it works, don't fix it.
PHP 7.3 + mariadb (on debian 10)
Tried to upgrade 3.3 to 4.0 on a local instance. Everything seems to work fine.
I really hope not
Can’t see the reason why need to migrate to Discourse.
Personally need to test the Vanilla 4.0 before we will migrate a few projects as migration from other software to Vanilla wasn’t smooth as expected, as migration tool was failing till we edited code.
Just let this like it is, it's perfect any unique from any other hosting forums.
Thanks for everyone's feedback.
Don't worry, LET is not changing it's design!
Can you add no-index to https://staging.lowendtalk.com/?
It's getting indexed and giving results in search engines.
Makes no sense whoever throws that. Lol.
Good suggestion.
Convert to XenForo if Vanilla is outdated or feeling buggy
The primary focus is not rocking the boat too much while also keeping our software package modestly up to date.
What even is that domain used for?
Used for testing plugins, etc. It's going to be password protected shortly.
A million times this, although LET is far from web 1.0.
Current style is perfectly between "too old" styles like Phorum and "unnecessarily new" ones like Discourse (which turns into crap when you browse a topic with more than 15-20 replies).
P.S.
BTW, Vanilla was sold to Higher Logic recently. Hopefully they won't destroy this great forum software:

Any update on your move to Vanilla 4.0 @WebProject?
Which forum were you thinking of converting?
Not yet.
previously we have migrated a couple projects from MyBB to Vanilla 3.x
Please let me know how it goes. Eager to hear some first hand experiences with 4.0.
