It's a joke, but believe it's having heavy load right now which impact the result.

If AMD EPYC 7282 cpu core was 100% dedicated, then single core geekbench should be around 900-950

    In Ubuntu 20.04:
    Uncomment IPv6 part of /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml
Comment out last line of /etc/sysctl.conf
    Then reboot.
    IPv6 will work.

    Do you give a example?

    :)

Currently installing APISCP, and CPU steal is ~27. I hope it's just because folks is doing bench right now..

  • Can I install a UCS ISO?

routing in Australia is a little hit and miss.

myself using Superloop (Megaport) have a 90ms ping to the server that is quiet reasonable,
a friend using a TPG based link starts getting 200ms+ via HE in Sydney?? with a round trip of over 250ms, 200ms within Australia is a joke, you may as well host in USA
my mobile using Telstra routes via Japan before getting to SG making it a 400ms round trip, I will see if I can find a friend using a Telstra retail link at their house rather than a mobile link to see if there is much difference, but I doubt that.

I have not been able to configure IPv6 either like others, they pointed me to the blog page, but that does nothing.

hopefully I can have some more information tomorrow, but I will dump a YABS..

I find their disk speed slow for what they advertise.

Telstra has around 400+ ping at home use to singapore...

  • contabo wont accept crypto currency as payment method :( unfortunately this is a big no no for me...

if it was a grocery store I would understand but in 2021, a hosting company not accepting crypto I think is just not up to the game

Its hard to do as German company. Taxation is horrible, if the value of the coin changes after sale (but before you sell it) your invoice is now invalid (and writing it was a crime) etc. etc.

FWIW: I just looked at the last result sets (from today) and find only a quite small decrease in SSD speed.
And it's still a quite nice and fast disk (for a SSD).

As for processor and mem those seem to be in the predicted range (about 15% slower than on an largely empty node).
But I only looked at the most recent 3 benchmark results which IMO is not terribly reliable (although still better than a one shot yabs or similiar).

All of the above re. the VPS.

  • IPv6 has been fixed while I was sleeping, and for myself the ping is still 90ms for that, so that is good.

The price is great, but the network is unoptimized.

Hi,Is that possible to request a routing optimization?
My traceroute seems like it didn't have the shortest optimized routing connection.
    Telekom Malaysia(AS4788) to Contabo Asia(AS141995)
Normally my isp to singapore only get about 8ms-50ms(By Equinix SG get about 10ms)

I am getting better routing for my France located server than contabo's SG VM. As they are in starting phase they might work on this in the future. Although, glad to see @contabo_m is expanding so fast.

  • i am in singapore on viewquest fiber which has the best routing in singapore of every isp. my connection goes to hong kong, then to the US, then back to singapore via he.net to get to contabo singapore. 170ms. crazy. why no local peering?

  • pierrepierre Member

It's a new location, they'll ofc have some issues here and there, but pricing is great compared to other companies from there.

Even though OVH offers dedicated servers in Singapore, I still haven't found a reliable and stable host offering Singapore as a location.

Good shit Contabo, cheers to the next years/locations.

Note: I bet they'll start offering DDoS Protection in the next couple weeks or months.

  • @gemuruhco said:
Wow. they're using EPYC 2019. but still worth .

Come on, 2nd gen EPYC is still amazing and pretty much flawless. They'll probably bring 3rd gen once they come readily available.

For the price they offer, I'd still be happy with Xeon E5's.

Hey, we are talking about a brand spanking new location. Give them some time. plus

    • they already did optimize some important routes - within a few days, well noted.
    • they are listening. That's something one doesn't get, at least not easily, from many providers. That's a solid basis.

I bet, for example, that @mijora's problem will be looked at. Btw. what he experiences is a typical problem with carriers; they tend to route everything via their main hubs (like e.g. Seattle) unless someone looks at a given source-target pair and makes an effort to find and configure a better route.

From the sg ovh dc I reach the contabo.switch2.sin2.he.net at ~ 2 ms, then one more hop to the test ip 103.164.55.92 is plus 160 ms....

Hm, while this sounds like a good idea, the ones i found show the same behaviour... 2ms to the he switch and then another 160ms in the last hop...

Edit: now i found a good one, but still: three at 160ms, one at 2ms (out of four).
