Yeah when they are on a clear background, they are almost impossible to find!

I'm curious, can your website give contextual information about eggs?

This website doesn't but it would be possible I assume. Where would be the fun though? The list of pages where the interesting eggs are is already too much for the real LETter, isn't it? (but.. it makes it easier to grab a VPS.)

Contextual information would make it possible to put the item in cart faster, maybe it could be useful for the 1,84 Euro / M VPS as this one always sell out very fast...

8.22 MB/s for 4k reads seems very slow for RAID10 SSD... That's the speed I'd expect from regular hard drives in RAID.

your expectations are wrong ;-) and you are probably interpreting the numbers wrong here.

regular hard drives are technically limited to something between 100-200 IOps because of the mechanical access times. therefore 2k IOps is not feasible for pure hdd even in raid. maybe if you add some caching you'll be able to see something like that.

don't get me wrong, 2k - actually 4k because this bench combines read and write 50+50 maybe considered on the lower end but still this is usually fast enough. probably the provider has set a limit here to help with balancing the node properly.

in general you want to see IOps when looking at 4k blocksize vs throughput when looking at 1m blocksize. 900MB/s is also something you won't achieve on HDD without caching.

on top do not forget this is a) a shared environment and b) people easily are spoiled by NVMe numbers from empty nodes.
this still is a synthetic bench, so you should not overinterpret the numbers ;-)

TL;DR; this particular example looks healthy, though it might not be the fastest ever seen.

Thank you for the explanation. I appreciate it

I really want to add an extra ~20GB space to my 16GB RAM / 80GB NVMe from the Black Friday sales, but I imagine you won't have anything in terms of modifying existing plans. If you have some unbalanced NVMe nodes with free disk space but not much free RAM (particularly in LA) then a VPS with lots of fast storage would be useful even if the RAM is low.

Why? Speed is a function of the number of drives and 900MB/s is the r/w total, not just read or write.

yeah, you are right, in a hdd raid with quite some HDDs striping that throughput can be possible, I give you that.

let me rephrase then: you won't achieve this performance for a guest on a normally shared/filled node running off a small hdd array.

if the provider is able to attach a bigger storage array he'll most likely also add caching to the mix anyway ;-)
