Digital Media Collections

I’m curious, is anyone seriously hoarding digital media? How many TB? And what’s your usage and backup strategy?

    That’s not bad tbf. Since the vast majority is animated, the bit-rates are typically low so you get more minutes per MB.

  • Barely hoarding just 668gb, the backup strategy for this data is none. What's life without a little risk every now and then?

    What sort of media?

    @lentro is a data hoarder.

    Almost 375 TB. RAID 5 dedis and VPSes at a tonna different providers + reed solomon erasure coding to distribute the files for amazing cost economics and enough redundancy that I can sleep at night.

    (This isn’t for my personal “ISOs,” this is for backup storage that I sell to some small/medium sized businesses)

    I have a 2TB hard drive.

    • 6GB of music, enough to fill an iPod nano
    • 120GB of photos, now fully sync'ed to NOVOS BRICK
    • 30GB of videos, including push-ups, bike rides, me playing in the mud, etc; some are no longer available locally but on YouTube only
    • 5GB of SD card images, for Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone Black and PinePhone
    • 10GB of study materials
    • 30GB of scientific data such as network packet traces

    What's the technology you're using for storing this data? Is it some kind of object storage like minio or something else?

    fuck ...?

    @Nekki wbu?

    Wow. Colour me impressed.

    Obviously I’m not on that scale.

    At home I’ve got about 6TB of media spread amongst multiple RAID1 devices. All photo and audio media is backed-up into various cloud storage services, all video is replicated across multiple dedicated servers. I’ve also got about 1TB of ROMs on various disks and on multiple devices capable of playing the ROMs.

    The dedicated servers account for in the region of 17TB of video media, with a small amount of (maybe 500GB) of audio and gaming stuff.

    The really important stuff is additionally backed up on smaller portal drives that live at the houses of my parents and in-laws, for absolute redundancy.

    Nothing that impressive if you hang around /r/datahoarders, but it covers what I need.

    Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be but self-imposed financial constraints mean I’m not getting there any time soon. I do feel another thread coming on though...

    I've had sneezing fits lasting multiple hours. Huuuuge snozz.

    Holy shit. Do you enjoy sneezing? My missus loves it for some reason, but I stifle all my sneezes without thinking. Someone told me that'll cause my eyes to pop out but all it's ever done is make me break wind.

  • Holy fuck. My mind is actually blown, this used to happen to me, back in the good ol' days when I could manage an erection.

  • Anyone else with an impressive collection?

  • /dev/vdb1 11T 5.0T 5.2T 50% /mnt/media

    Not that impressive, but it's something.
    Have a few extra TB available on the server when it fills up more.

    Nothing spectacular - ~50TB Movies/TV/Music backed up in the cloud, ~30TB on my home NAS running unraid, Movies only. Currently just updating what I can from 1080 to 4K when the quality calls for it.

    *edit - forgot I have a server with ~11TB for my linux iso's and temp stuff I wont be keeping.

    This is silly. Is this shit you have that you'll never watch, or watched once and will never watch again?
