Hello,
I try to set up for a few hours my linux VM on a Windows Dedicated machine.
NAT machine works perfect, but getting it online with other IP it doesn't work for me.

I got new failover IP, added VMWARE MAC, put the same to the VM.

Network Settings Configuration install mode:
Ubuntu

IP: 1XX.XX.XX.XX
Netmask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: mainserver IP but 254 at the END.

But no way to get it online. I hope someone can help me or give me some advice

In the hypervisor (e.g. VMware), set the virtual machine's network adapter to use bridge mode.
There's usually a selection among: NAT, bridge, host only, internal, etc.

Yes, I use. but somehow i can not use my ip address.

  • try this

    1. power off your vm in vmware workstation
    2. go to edit menu - virtual network editor
    3. click change settings
    4. click vmnet that have type as "bridge" , set "bridged to" specific network adapter that connect to the physical networks
    5. edit your VM settings and give a check on "replicate physical network connection state"
    6. power on your vm
  • @specsblue maybe ask your own firms tech support.

Double check your netmask isn't typo'd.

Add pointopoint GW_IP to the network configuration so it becomes something like:

    address FAILOVER_IP
    netmask 255.255.255.255
    gateway GATEWAY_IP
    pointopoint GATEWAY_IP

(this typically works in Debian and I think by extension Ubuntu but I'm not sure on other distros).

This is because the gateway is on a different network/subnet from your failover IP subnet. If both are on the same subnet, then a mask of 255.255.255.0 should do the trick (to ensure that you can reach the gateway from the IP you're using on the VM).
