What's with all the downtime lately?

First I sign up with StylexNetworks, 11h of downtime. Then I go to DigitalOcean, 11h of downtime. Today I signed up with Clustered, currently experiencing downtime. What the hell is going on? Am I attracting these kinds of things? Is there anyone that you can actually rely on?

Maybe you just have a bad luck. :/

    Try iwstack.

  • iwstack was my first option but they don't want my business so I'm looking further. Funny thing is it's all those redundant/ha/failover/cloud providers going down.

  • ^ lol

DigitalOcean isn't. They just pretend to.

Murphy, our resident voodoo specialist, rejected your application, I am sorry, but it seems he was right !

How do you hire a Voodoo specialist?

  • The only thing I ever did on my machines was install cpanel/WHM and that's it. I never had any traffic so apparently I wasn't the cause of this.

Actually, he is named Max and has a strange mind, he wishes to be called Murphy at times and is wholly automated but dont tell anyone, we wish to make people believe we have a lot of staffers, when actually everything is run by robots.
Time to go for recharge, err..., sleep.

The same one who wrote all those laws that keep getting broken?

Your mistake. You should have gone with decent providers such as stormondemand, leaseweb, solarvps, phoenixnap.

Also a properly built dedicated would give you much better uptime than most shared environments.

  • KnownHost, FutureHosting, WiredTree are all my favorites but they don't support custom kernels. LeaseWeb doesn't support plan upgrades. SolarVPS was an option but 50/50 reviews and no EU locations. Stormondemand is hyped up, I had a VPS with LiquidWeb and they don't deliver for the price they charge. I thought PhoenixNAP does colo only.

I don't want to start with dedicated because of the costs, I want to start small and build up. I did talk with Hetzner thought, but it's not the time yet.

If you ever decide to switch from OVZ to KVM, you sold me.

  • There is a saying "bad things happen in threes".. so you should be good now!

  • Never heard of that one before but I hope you're right.

Well, let us know how your next purchase goes. Hopefully your bad luck streak is over :)

I'd just get a small dedicated from reliablesite with ssd raid1.

  • @serverian I don't need that much resources, even with the smallest dedicated server. I'd be throwing money away. What I need is a 2GB KVM that can run CloudLinux (even with manual image boot or kexec support) with an option of upgrading to at least 16Gb but preferably more and it has to be located in EU. Preferably SSD but SAS will do and no more than $30-5/m. This is not unrealistic but it's hard to find someone reliable. All these routing issues lately make me think...

    Ever tried Cloudee?

  • It may interest you? not SAS or SSD but 100 Mbit unmetered dedicated BW @ 20 euro/mo sounds like a good deal!

  • @serverian cloudee.com returns blank and cloudee.eu is closed.

@earl Yes, I saw this today. If you choose the cheapest plan and add an additional drive and software RAID1 it make out to 113€. Hetzner's lowest SSD 32GB is around 100€ with cPanel.

I think SW RAID use to be free as long as you state that in the comments prior to them installing your OS.. maybe that changed? but @ 113€ for a drive upgrade I would probably get the next plan that comes with 2x250GB drive and 2 IP's for 25€/mo

Anyhow the site does not seem to be loading so that's probably not a good sign! lol.

    --update

Seems maybe they block canada? works fine on a US IP.

Anyhow I just noticed that the default is set at a 3 month term that's probably why you got the 113€ for the total.

  • cloudee.com returns blank

Cloudee.com was a video sharing service owned by Boxee. They shut it down 2 months ago after Samsung purchased Boxee.

    Versio.nl, Tilaa.com, PCExtreme.nl's Aurora cloud

No, they have dedicated servers and cloud. Cloud hosting is available in Amsterdam, NL for EU.

  • @DomainBop those sure look fantastic! I've never heard of them before, how reliable are they?

    @INIZ I missed that, thanks.

  • Maybe they are just politely hinting that they don't want you on their network ;)

I've managed to sort things out with Clustered. I was blocked out due to 3 failed login tries and ICMP is denied so I couldn't ping. There was no downtime after all, just slow support. But I'm very much attracted to versio, tilaa and pcextreme now that DomainBop posted those links.

@Vpscraze now I'm gonna sign up with you. :)

  • I've never heard of them before, how reliable are they?

All 3 of them are solid well established companies.

Versio is one of the largest hosts and domain registrars in the Netherlands. They had some problems with their cloud platform when they first introduced it last year but the platform is stable now. Support is very good. Versio requires quarterly payments. Monthly is not an option.

Tilaa - small company but their platform is very stable. Support is also very good.

PCExtreme- their cloud platform is only a few months old but the reviews have been very favorable so far. They have the worst support of the 3 companies though.
