Please add more bandwidth on the default plans :-)

    Thank you!

That is the plan. But Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and other similar locations will have a different bandwidth allotment than the US/EU ones. Still huge for the price though and definitely more TB/$ than the bigger players in these markets.

Let me know if you'd like to look into transit services with us, can provide it in all the APAC locations you listed. Can be very competitive in AU especially.

Obviously the high cost ones should be kept at bay :-)
I am talking more about NA/EU

New specs sounds awesome though, cant wait to try it out!

  • I think I missed it, but how do I buy services off @trewq - not sure what company they represent :)

I've tried a bunch of providers in Australia and Quantum Core is the best IMO. Solid network, modern servers (with Xeon Gold 6258r processors and very fast NVMe drives), and they're an actual registered Australian business with an office based in Australia. They're currently running a promotion where if you deposit AU$10 of credit, you'll get AU$50 for free, meaning you can get one year of their cheapest plan (usually $5/month) for only $10. https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/168661/quantum-core-50-free-credit

After a month of hoping @trewq gets some stock I have to look elsewhere. I came ->.<- this close to signing up with @quantumcore last night but in doing my due diligence I realised they want control over what content I have, and that is not acceptable to me. Shame, as they look to have what I want.

And because I know people will ask - I'm talking about their AUP against having lawful adult content and lawful adult discussions.

I want to support Aussies but by and large we're a bunch of prudes. :P

  • My 2c on Sydney services;

HostHatch - Haven't tested extensively since picking up a BF KVM however for the price, I can't see myself complaining.

HostUS - Been with them for years using their OVZ Sydney presence as a personal VPN. Decided to take the leap and pick up a few KVM's on launch for personal projects and have been blown away by the performance.

BinaryLane - Have been using them for over 3 years now for multiple clients with nothing but positive feedback ( I don't actually think I have a support ticket with them). Their panel is miles ahead of a lot of providers with extensive onsite and offsite backup options. They also share their upgrades on all POPs in Australia on Twitter and personally (I believe Sydney and Brisbane are fully upgraded now) Their new panel is coming soon too.

RansomIT - Slightly more expensive then most, however, Oliver's customer service and network experience are truly inspiring, especially with custom dedi needs. I'd be lying to say that network isn't perfect as i did experience multiple outages throughout the year I was with him. Note: Oliver was always fully transparent on what the issue was.

FlowVPS - Decided to not renewal my Melbourne service after the first year mainly due to our client base being in Sydney. However, @trewq has a special eye for detail and never had any issues, besides the occasional network drop (I believe its RansomIT's infrastructure)

Linode - Solid but CPU's limited to 2.2ghz and for $5/m all the services above provide much better performance.

    Thanked by 1NobodyInteresting
  • you can try streamline-servers

Not sure how long ago this was but we've been working hard over the last year on the network with hardware and peering upgrades with even more exciting upgrades coming in the new year!

Yeah, that's a nasty TOS. I particularly dislike the "small business catering to a single country" clause.

  • Best providers

    • OVH
OK Network, shit support and if your VPS is down just give up, no proper IPv6. I guess they are pretty cheap and the best value, but I would probably stay away because they kind of suck.

    • Vultr
Pretty good value, their CPU and disk speeds are very fast for their pricing, speedtests are up to 10gbps which is the fastest I have seen on a VPS in Australia.

    • Quantum Core
They are really good, their prices are very cheap, good network, IPv6 support. Can't really ask for more.

    • Network Presence
I think they start from $3/month, although network and disk speeds are pretty slow.

    • Streamline Servers
They are a bit more expensive, but their network is probably the best out of most VPS providers in AU (GSL Networks).

  • I second RansomIT. Been good for me.

Thanks. Picked one up. It's KVM, by the way. $35/2years was too good.

  • @jon617 said: It's KVM

Good point... I didn't think to mention that since KVM is the 'standard' cloud VM these days

Thanks for sharing that, I somehow missed it! As @jon617 said - $35 for 2 years is a steal.

Me too. Not due to that but due to their copyright policy:

" h) is intended to assist others in defeating technical copyright protections; "

That is absolutely unacceptable. So according to the policy I can show you how to open a mechanical lock you own using these:

But I can't show you how to open a digital lock that you own? It doesn't violate Australian law - hell Harvey Norman will hand-over the code to unlock the region on your Bluray or DVD player, but putting the same code onto my hosting would violate their AUP! There have been lawsuits about this already in Australia, it has been tested in court.

They haven't even defined what "technical copyright protections" means either, it's just a lazy copy-and-paste job of an undefined term. Is stripping HDCP defeating a "technical copyright protection", and if so which copyright is it defeating and who is it harming? Can I show people how to defeat "technical copyright protections" that are out of patent - if not why the hell not?

As for "lawful adult content" - well define what you mean by that. It has to be classified by the Australian Classification Board to make it legal to host in Australia - the vast majority of internet pornography has certainly never been classified in Australia, therefore it's not legal to host. Just because it's legal for you to possess doesn't make it legal to host. Also of course they haven't defined what they actually mean by pornography so be wary of that as well - some people think that non-sexual nudity is pornography.

  • @mikho he also has 2 .AU location, Sydney and Perth www.mrvm.net
