@francisco if you ever launch servers in Australia, I'd be happy to pay for two years in advance for a Slice 1024 or 2048

Sounds like I should probably do a mass email poll and see what people think :) While I got my problems with the AU IP law, i'm fearing that's where most places are headed in the coming 4 - 5 years.

I guess you haven't followed the news then? They recently banned hentai. I was memeing about it on our discord.

They also have some IP log laws in place.

Hah :) Who knows what the new year brings.

Lets get all the locations equal to start.

Consider you are a provider who dont exactly prefer to get client money earlier, i believe wherever your next DC location is, would be good. Can't make decisions lightly, and we can wait.
Speaking of which, since Lux is being upgraded, can existing clients in NY or LV request a move to LUX?
Total wipe is expected, just want to cut the queue XD

  • @Francisco will Luxembourg get DA-reseller node on Ryzen? If yes.. ETA?
Also, did you got those board to upgrade LV-DA node to Ryzen or still there's wait-time?

  • The moment LU based Ryzen + Slabs come up, I WILL be cancelling quite a few VMs and moving there

    Keep us updated @Francisco

LU DA will upgrade within a week of slices going up :) there's nodes in the shipment just for resellers.

lu-shared02 will get upgraded next week with lu-shared01 happening once all the nodes are racked. This is because lu-shared02's on a repurposed slice node so it's in the way of racking the ryzen's.

    Hopefully not with us :P

    Sounds good though :)

you can always lose the logs in a "drive failure"

  • FranciscoFrancisco Top Host, Host Rep, Veteran

@evanwalters said: you can always lose the logs in a "drive failure"

"We lost the logs in a boating accident". There's supposedly provisions in the laws for cases like that where you get fined into the ground.

I think an AU location would be a far ways out (late 2021 if at all) with UK being more likely a lot sooner (start of the year if we did it).

Right now we're going to see how things go with the LUX upgrades and how things with rona goes.

It would be cool if you could do a little microblog about what goes into setting up a new location etc. it's quite interesting :)

Singapore definitely won't happen because of the speech laws. Sorry to disappoint.

Honestly I think anywhere in Asia Pacific would be great. Currently APAC isn't served particularly well with BuyVM's anycast network.

Australia or New Zealand would be awesome for me personally though! NZ in particular doesn't have a lot of good VPS hosts.

I poked around in some pricing with a friend last night, would be interesting but a lot of planning/hagling.

Hoping to be your customer real soon!

I hope you'll be my customer too ;)

Anthony & I figure it'll take 3 - 4 days to get everyone migrated, hopefully a lot sooner if the 10gbit network is turned up from the start.

Slabs in Lux? How about Singapore?

Slabs are on the pallet :) I figure we'll have them live within a week of slices + 10gbit network being rolled out. Most likely a lot sooner than that.

Singapore has some draconian censorship laws in place that makes it a no for us.

Right now we're considering a UK launch (be it we buy another brand and merge it into the family), and or somewhere like Japan. Japan seems to be freedom of speech laws similar to that of the States with the only issue most likely being porn censorship.

I'm open to suggestions and feedback :)

    How about Australia?

Would be fun but a lot of planning to make it not shit. You have the 4 major eyeball networks and they're in the $3/mbit+ range even on large commits.

@t0ny0 said: Hit us up with UK. If you manage to score some linx or some other IX - that will be a huge bonus as well :-)

The current standing offer I got would get us on both LINX LON1 & LoNAP :) We'd have Cogent to carry for normal transit and some routes for BT/VM as well.

    It's a great offer.

Is a new location part of your anycast offering?

@rick2610 said: Is a new location part of your anycast offering?

Honestly, I think so. I was against it, but the majority of our users doing anycast are going to want the added locations anyway.

I'd have to confirm but it should be private sessions :)

This isn't a for sure, but Karen & Anthony are game. I think it'd do well if we bring the full stack onboard.
