EIG to be acquired for $3 billion
This was originally placed on the other green forum, but EIG is being aquired at $9.50/share by Clearlake Capital Group L.P for a $1.34 billion dollar valuation, but they will also be taking on the debt for the total acquisition to be worth $3 billion.

Huge price increases incoming.
Perfect timing for Brent who founded/sold Hostgator to EIG, and is now starting Create.com
On the create.com website, it states "For years, the industry has been swallowed up and outsourced, and we are on a mission to create a company built on the culture of keeping customers first by creating intuitive, easy to use products."
Surprised he didn't have a longer non-compete clause.
He exited back in 2012 - so I wouldn't expect for him to be out of the game that long, usually 2-3 years max.
He'll have to roll a Hotel California business model (Squarespace/Wix) to be viable. cPanel has too much volatility and losing out to substitution from hyperspecialized alternatives.
Edit: on the flip side if it prospers running cPanel, then a name is everything.
I would have to agree. If he started a long time ago he might have a fighting chance. cPanel hosting is dead.
yes the rumors are true I have bought EIG for 3 billion dollars
If so, I am your client. I use reselerclub for domains.
I offered upto 2.99 bn and lost the deal. Better luck for me next time. 😉
Quite the list of brands they have managed to assemble at EIG.
What was EIG's annual revenue?
only time will tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Wonder how many more customers will switch now that this is out of the bag
I think it'll be like the Oakley's acquisition of WebPros. Private equity firms see value in companies (this one paid 50% more than the current stock price) because they think it can generate more profits than it currently does.
I certainly think it will lead to many service cuts/reductions even more than the already bare-bones service they provide.
Yep it will be a good one to watch. Really depends on how they handle the hand off on how many services are going to be messed up like when EIG took over the other host.
Hey man,
I cannot login to 69host cpanel backend, can u help? it is EIG brand. can u give me 50% off discount coupon? also i need unlimited space hosting, can u help sir?

Why sir, I gib my bujiness to u..

I so regret selling my stock.
Just kidding. Did it immediately when it went public.
Damn! I would have payed $3.5 bln but I didn't have the liquidity after I lost tens of billions when my $7/yr VPS was offline for some hours.
Do not worry, I'm here to help you, dear sir. I can offer a 75% discount coupon (valid for the first up to 120 seconds) as well as very cheap space unlimited hosting (20 MB included, beyond that only $0.03 per KB). No DMCA option also available! Bulletproof and offshore options available only for new customers.
Conditions: front-up payment for 3 years or 5 years with additional 0.25% rebate.
Starting with WHMCS and cpanel. As in old times...

And posting pictures like this:
So looking at EIGI's financials, the thing wasn't looking great.
Revenue was declining, net profits were negative in 2019 and average revenue per employee was relatively low for well run industry standards ($295K USD).
Honestly I am super impressed they managed to squeeze so much out of the thing - about 3 x revenue (1.1BN in 2019) including the consideration for existing debt.
I hope it benefits all the non-EIG providers (particularly the small providers).
So this is it now? All those brands will be sold from one capital group to another until there is no room for extra profits? I believe Clearlake will sell out once they make enough profits of this investment.

They probably need to remove the default WHMCS announcement. LOL
