VPS with Good Connection to ID

youandriyouandri Member

Hello,

Does anyone know a VPS provider outside that has a good connection to Indonesia (ID)?
Like good speed, ping and traceroute.

Thank you in advance.

Singapore is your best choice, so check out whoever provides services out of SG - HostUS or OVH for example.

Sorry if the question is basic, how to check through the looking glass?
Did I enter my internet IP? or how?

    Thanks.

  • Didn't we currently having a traffic filtering, make the IX speed slower from Telkom?
Or perhaps you are using another providers?

For some providers, they have a looking glass, if we open it, it shows our IP (from browsers without vpn or proxy). Try to test ping, or download the test files from it.

exactly, telkom is sucks (for now). my connection to DO was saturated like hell. tried on both their fiber and 4G. but a bit strange, because connection to my Vultr vm working fine. Maybe they have problems with their routing stuffs.

  • ExtraVM (hosted on OVH) is decent.
    ~35ms with FirstMedia, ~100ms (?) with Telkomsel.

Cool IPv6.. since when they provide it?

  • NanoG6NanoG6 Member

Actually since long time ago, they support dual stack native IPv6. But they disable it as a default config on the customer's ONT.

  • Almost all international traffic from/to Indonesia transit via Singapore, so yeah get VPS in Singapore. Or maybe in HK.

If you trying to find VPS in Indonesia with good connection to international and doesn't really care budget then GCP or Alibabacloud is good choice.

Yeah if you just need internet then just switch to other ISP. But Telkom has attractive bundling for tv cable, maybe the cheapest one. And they just rolling out IPv6 (I don't know if nation-wide or in certain region) even though their IPv6 peering is meh.

  • NanoG6NanoG6 Member

Do you really watch that bundled tv cable? It cost half of the subscription/bundling price. I only watch local TV stations, so it kinda mubazir for me. For movies I watch Netflix, and for local TV stations using digital antenna.

Currently I had IPv6 from Telkom, just need to enable it from modem, perhaps it's been a month.

And you know what, currently there is no DNS hijack/transprent DNS if you’re using V6 internet connection. Simply change your DNS resolver. So you can access reddit and download favorite Linux ISO

What ?! Do you mean with IPv4 based internet connection with default DNS in Indonesia blocked reddit and some linux ISO ?

  • gtxrgtxr Member

For this time only HostUS. Ryzen + NVME + Low latency + Cheaper than DO/Vultr = Best Combo

Yes, reddit and any porn with hentai words in it.

+1 hostus. I move my alibabacloud vpn to them. Better quality than my ovh SG

  • Not just blocking reddit and linux iso websites, but also tampering non https websites with their ads.

But indeed, with IPv6 accessing some websites becomes faster than using IPv4.

Good connection to Indonesia is "hard to describe".

    1. By location (geolocation) it will certainly be limited by Singapore, Tokyo and Hongkong. These are the best route, I've ever experienced.

    2. Singapore would have the less latency, to and from Indonesia, of course, due to every transit from Indonesia landed at Singapore (for common ISP), compare to TY or HK. But there are several ISPs (I thought one not several) that has main international transit POP, not in SG.

    3. It has Sulewesi, to CA direct cable (SEA US https://www.submarinecablemap.com/#/submarine-cable/sea-us). And you might guess, who operate or own the cable. That is the PT. Telkom Indonesia. Also they initiated the IGG cable (for Jawa to Kalimantan, Sulawesi). While Maluku and Papua still remain untouchable (by Telkom, of course and they don't disclose any map or ring on those things ). Well I'm not accusing they are doing a 'dirty business' but they have been investing a lot.

    4. So it is hard to say or describe what would be the best connection, if you are using or destined or sourced from or to Telkom IPs (from the fact mentioned).

So the good connection to Indonesia is one thing, and the good connection to Telkom Indonesia is another thing, I believe.

So frankly speaking. What I could figure out that HostUS probably peers with AS 7713 which belong to Telkom. But there is also one ASN that belongs to them AS 23693, that hasn't been peered by HostUS. This will just have about time, (for any other "peers" with Telkom to have the same experiences as DO at the end). What do you guys think? Being jerk. Well, Telkom have many "enemies".

Pair with them will not guarantee, as experienced by many providers. DO peer with Telkom, as well. But now, have going on a "battle" with them as DO is getting bigger and bigger with huge market share, without "sharing" to Telkom, for sure  So it's up to us to conclude and be wise. Pushing DO or others far too way might not help us, for sure. So best of luck of you for this.

23693 have only 1 upstream 7713 and no peers?

    23693 (Telkomsel customers)
    7713
    17974

They are all that "we" are aware of, belong to PT. Telkom Indonesia. Which one is the "main" local AS, yet "we" don't know.
