Cannot get mail from providers whmcs backends

OhJohnOhJohn Member

So as a lot of you providers probably use whmcs:

I just don't get any emails by your whmcs systems.

Having this problem with several providers I looked into anything, but cannot find a reason from my side.

The mail address is protected by greylisting and some spamlist providers like barracudacentral, spamcoop and abuseat.

I just don't get any of the mails sent by whmcs. No verification mails, nothing. I do get mails from the e.g. SolusVM backend or whatever else tool a provider might use. But not from whmcs.

So do you as a provider know about these problems? Is it probably some settings in whmcs?

Sth. I could tell those providers to check for in their whmcs installation and setup?

Must be a certain keyword that all WHMCS email templates have that causes the email to not reach you?

Are you able to see logs of blocked emails?

  • Ok, now I finally got my first mail from a whmcs system: I have to explicitly whitelist the provider domain.

So folks: please check your whmcs systems for any signs of a possible spam score. Especially standard templates/wordings and the like. It does look as if you are triggering mail spam guards way too easily.

In this case actually I'm not able to see the logs as the mail address is on a managed system.

But as I've just found out that whitelisting does help it does look as if some standard settings in whmcs does trigger one of the above listed spam guards.

I've had reports quite some time ago. After looking into it I found it's due to a header that WHMCS puts in the e-mails. (or doesn't put - I don't remember)

I don't remember specifics though, as I said this was awhile ago.

  • Sounds like a great question for WHMCS tech support.

  • It sure is but I'm not a whcms customer as I'm just a customer of their customers. So this is just a warning that sth. is not perfect in the probable standard setup. Right now I'd say it's about 80% of all (especially smaller) providers where I'm hitting that wall. At least I've now found out that whitelisting helps.

The possibility is those hosts you are using is using php mail() to send out the email. Which cause it to fail all sort of SPF/DKIM.
