Storage VPS with either modern distro or KVM/XEN?

Hey, so I just want a box to put some personal files, subsonic, and a few static websites on, and use to play around with various bits and pieces (code I write etc). All the "storage" VPS providers seem to be ancient distros, whereas all the normal providers seem to scale up CPU/RAM with their HDD and become prohibitively expensive.

So I'm ideally looking for something low spec, in Europe, with at least 300GB storage for <$10 a month, where I can manage my own kernel/distro. Pretty low bandwidth requirements etc.

Congrats on your first post since July 2014

If HDD is okay, perhaps Contabo?

Perhaps something like this might work? Located at Frankfurt, Germany with 500 GB HDD

    500G plan
    512 MB RAM
    500 GB HDD
    2 core fair-share access include
    3 TB bandwidth per month
    1 Gbit/sec upink
    1 IPv4
    /64 IPv6

    KVM powered VPS

    Price
    $5/month or $25/semi-annually

    Order Link
    Frankfurt, Germany -- https://crowncloud.net/clients/cart.php?a=add&pid=359

or if looking for something yearly and if ~50 GB lower in space is ok?

    250G plan
    512 MB RAM
    250G GB HDD
    2 core fair-share access include
    3 TB bandwidth per month
    1 Gbit/sec upink
    1 IPv4
    /64 IPv6

    KVM powered VPS

    Price
    $25/year

    Order Link
    Frankfurt, Germany -- https://crowncloud.net/clients/cart.php?a=add&pid=363

    We've got templates for CentOS 6/7/8, Debian 8/9/10, various Ubuntu(s) upto 19.10

Apart from this, we've got ISO/CD-ROM support, wherein you could share the link to the ISO file of the operating system you wish to install and we can mount it for install on your VPS for free.

and RAM can be upgraded upto 2 GB (total) max per storage-KVM, for $1/month per 512MB of RAM.

  • We're here for your consideration.

2 GB Dedicated DDR3 RAM (ECC)
    250 GB RAID-10 Storage (W/ BBU)
    2 X Intel(R) Xeon(R) vCPU @ 3.40GHz (Fair Share Policy)
    $8.18

    Hello Supreme Rat commander,

Join the family :) STORAGE-0.5T should fit your need perfectly :)

So many to choose from! Going to try nexus for now as it seems like a great price :) If it doesn't work out we'll see. Thanks everyone!

Hopefully that'll get set up ASAP so I can start to migrate from Iniz (who are getting rid of their storage VPS and are also OpenVZ)

Is there any way to upgrade the RAM allocation on a box? Just realised 512MB might be a bit low and is meaning subsonic eats dirt constantly

  • Amazing, got upgraded just like that :) And what a difference it makes!

    OP, for future searches, try:
    https://en.metadedi.net/

You can sort things like price for TB too. Perhaps @seriesn should add his site here too :)

But the OP wasn't looking for a dedicated server

Was also looking at this as I'm shopping around to see which has performance I like with (nexus seems like it's more for backup than frequently accessed stuff), but it seems you only accept paypal or "offline payment". I'm banned from paypal because I signed up years ago before I was 18 (lol) and they eventually caught on. If you could take card or whatever I'd have given it a shop.

Man this site is bloody great, currently trying a VPS from PulseHeberg and whilst it was confusing to order because I know no French, it seems zippy as hell and has enough space

You can pay with credit/debit card without creating a PayPal account (Not sure if your ban applies to this method also). We can also do direct bank deposit or BTC.

Just let me know if I can assist you in anyway!
