How does everyone feel about how this will effect the hosting industry?

This will obviously hurt the food and entertainment industries, brick and mortar stores, etc. and therefore effect online ad spending, but at the same time more people will be spending less time outside and more time online.

I can see services like Instacart and Postmates becoming more popular (and potentially raising prices), but curious where you all see things going for the hosting industry.

I liked the NBA player who mockingly touched all the reporters' microphones at a press conference because he thought coronavirus was overhyped.

Then two days later he tested positive for coronavirus. And now the NBA has suspended the season.

    Ha ha, not so funny...

The people who underestimate what this virus can do to you and the people around you, will suffer from it.

This is not a joking matter. People kept saying it is flu like, but does not understand the math, this virus kills >=10x compared to flu, and we have no cure or vaccine yet. That's why we have to slow down the spread.

  • Can someone explain why the hell are people buying so much toilet paper for? Last I saw corona does not give you diarrhea.

You'll be dead soon anyways, so this argument is pointless.

By your logic even parts of Russia are in the EU.

During lock-down it's possible that you won't have water for shower (as engineers for electricity and water will be in lock-down too), but you will receive food and water to survive from government, and you already have your own stash of Linux iso's; but you will also need toilet paper for personal hygiene.

I tend to agree that the impact will be positive.

Dunno if it had been posted here already, but it sounded worth it to make a little come back to share this link in case it can help fellows el'cheapos:

tl;dr: better act now than letting the situation get worse, Italian style (even though they finally put their shit together, but a bit too late for the load on their health system - shit can get ugly if the right decision isn't taken early!)

tl;dr: better act now than letting the situation get worse, Italian style (even though they finally put their shit together, but a bit too late for the load on their health system - shit can get ugly if the right decision isn't taken early!)

In Italy the health system is not overloaded, it would have become if we had not taken the practices we are implementing, we have not yet reached the limit of our availability of intensive care and we have a company that is building 500 respirators per week, I understand that from outside it is easy and reassuring to believe that in Italy there are many infections because it is a backward and disorganized country, for the moment the United States authorities for the prevention of coronavirus have made great declarations and zero facts, I hope you are really much better than us and that you manage to have 0 deaths, but blaming Europe and China and making amazing statements will not protect you from the virus, you have to stay at home like chinese and italians did, there is no other way.

Italy has a very old population, as a result we have more elderly people affected than China and Korea, according to WHO data:

"In Italy on March 4 lethality (calculated as the number of deaths on confirmed cases) among the over 80 is 10.9 percent, while in China on February 24 (the latest available data, extracted from the report of the joint China-WHO commission ) was 14.8 percent, "the ISS clarified in a press release on March 6. "Between 70 and 79 years the comparison sees Italy with a lethality of 5.3 percent, while China has 8 percent, and between 0 and 69 it is 0.5 percent in our country against 1 , 3 percent Chinese. "

Italy is represented as inadequate to face the Virus and with 4 scrambled doctors, in reality we have an advanced and free healthcare by constitution, and more unlike other countries, such as Germany where they say they have almost no deaths and hospitalizations unlike the rest of the world (to date they declare 3476 infected, 46 hospitalized and 8 dead), in Italy every day the government makes a public bulletin with precise data and makes all medical data available to anyone, is respecting the scientific principles of sharing that can be useful to everyone.

in my city to date we have 518 cases and 21 deaths, I hope you don't have this problem.

    Take care of yourself

I'm closer to Italy than you seem to expect.

It's a fact that many people there (like in FR/DE/ES) considered the coronavirus like a flu at first and joked at people saying to be extra careful. It's true as well that the country lost precious days / weeks before implementing the measures that are currently in place. In some hospitals they have (had? if you say it's over I trust you no problem) to decide who they save and who they let die, because there is (was) not enough repirators. That's this situation we have to avoid. Not saying that Italy doesn't have good hospitals/doctors/population. Just that we all have to be careful, no matter where we live. Read the article, not my tl;dr: the focus is not on Italy, I used it as an example of a country who had the ability to know what was coming (looking at China) and how to react and who waited too long to limit the spread of the virus. The same is currently going on in most western EU countries and of course, the US.

Compare Italy to the asian countries who reacted best to the covid-19 and you'll see that some things could have been done earlier if no better. Again, this works for several other countries as well. Sure the US is going to face a huge crisis: when your president says that “It’s a little like the regular flu that we have flu shots for” you gotta know that you'll likely be in trouble if you don't take extra steps to protect your family and old/sicks relatives . The next weeks will tell how deep in trouble most countries of the world are, in the meantime, deciding personally to take a couple of protection measures that might seem "too much" to some people can't hurt. Remember: the goal isn't (only) to protect you but to avoid the overloading of the health system, as if it gets overloaded mortality rate is way higher (4% or more vs 0.9).

So global mortality rates are calculated based on the number of clinically diagnosed vs the number of those who have passed on. Why are we not factoring in all of the folks who do have the virus, but are part of the 81 percent who have symptoms consistent with a cold and who never seek treatment from health care providers?

Regarding the 80 percent (ish) remark I made above here is one of the many sources who have reported the same: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/02/27/world/asia/coronavirus-treament-recovery.amp.html

Even in state of emergencies it's not free ? COVID-19 has has now become an epidemic

It seems developing countries like India are better in this case, Government hospitals are free here though they don't offer good medical services, but still they are free especially in cases of epidemic

  • In fact, the novel coronavirus appears to affect a person’s lungs in such a specific way, doctors can often tell if a patient has COVID-19 just by looking at their CT scans.

They just announced that the tests will be free for all, insured and non-insured.
