v3ngv3ng Member, Patron Provider

Hi,

Im moving to New Zealand for some months, therefore I'm looking for the best location for a small server with a low latency to NZ.

I have the following options:

  • Toronto, ON
  • Newark, NJ
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Dallas, TX
  • Fremont, CA
  • London
  • Frankfurt, FRG
  • Tokyo
  • Singapore
  • Mumbai, India

  • Why not one on Australia? iirc @trewq does it on a reasonable price. Or you could get an AU NAT VM from @mikho too :)

Or if he is still offering the combo of 11 from yesterday, get all of them and then set up NAT of the month.

    Hi,
Why not get a Server in Australia or New Zealand? ;)
I just tested with my Server in NZ:
    Fremont/San Francisco ~ 175ms
    Singapore ~ 120ms
    London and Frankfurt > 300ms
    Tokyo ~ 250ms
    Bangalore > 400ms
    Dallas ~ 250ms

I can only use the locations which Linode offers.
So it looks like Singapore is the best option?

    Quadhost/i-83 has servers in Auckland

Hosthatch also has OpenVZ in Sydney

Not sure about New Zealand, but in Australia this really depends on how the ISP chooses to route the traffic. Some go directly from Australia to Singapore, while others route via the USA (in which case getting a server on the US west coast would be better than a server in Singapore, as traffic to the Singaporean server will be going via the USA anyways).

Probably the best option is to wait until you're actually in New Zealand, then try all of Linode's speed tests (https://www.linode.com/speedtest) on your internet connection.

If the linode credit can be transferred, I can accept that as payment.

  • To the best of my knowledge, there are three main routes from NZ
    1. NZ to Aussie to Singapore
    2. NZ to Hawaii to LA
    3. NZ to Aussie to Hawaii to LA

Going by @ruben ping results, Singapore will be your best option.
