Cheap VPS for watching British TV?

AeneAene Member

If one would be interested in a cheap UK VPS to watch British TV through a private VPN. Would that be possible? Anyone can provide a recommendation(if it's OK to ask)?

Are there anything worthy to watch in UK?

The last one I recall was Top Gear. Though after BBC sacked Clarkson, I stopped watching it. BBC killed Doctor Who, so that's out the door also.

Hey laddy, come stay in my closet and you can watch my British television.

You'd have to pay for the BBC TV license though.

OH and pay for an aerial fitting.

    And a TV.

  • Isn't that just called "PBS" in North America?

    Downtown Abby was worth watching.

That whole license thing is so weird...

NNoooooooo, it makes perfect sense. ;-)

"You need a license to watch television."
Response: "Oh, okay. There's no TV here."

"We know you have a TV."
    Response: "Prove it."

"There are these inspectors that come visit."
Response: "Um, no. Kthxbai. No really. Get off my porch or I'll shoot you and claim you're a peeping tom."

"Fine, we made these vans that drive around to detect TVs."
Response: "I'm just watching old VHS tapes of my high school graduation. Prove I'm not." Secondary response: RF-blocking paint sales up 3000%.

Isn't there a less legal (and easier) way of getting those TV shows then by using a VPS with own VPN?

If you still want a VPN, you can go for privateintetnetaccess [dot] com for cheap VPN (3.11 per month) where you can choose the country you want to show up as.

"Here is the output from our spectrum analyzer".

They are detecting specific frequencies, not just "a TV" . Years ago, for satellite TV in North America, one of the popular hacks used a PCB sticking out of the smart card slot. The few inches of clock trace created an antenna and 121MHz could be picked up from your front yard. The receiver outputs this harmonic as well, but the trace remains inside the metal chassis and well below the allowed limits.

So I'm not familiar with the BBC system, but I imagine they are looking at a very specific frequency that outs you.

  • Checkout Britbox, it is like British streaming service for people in US. I think 50% off for first 3 months, then 7$/month.

I personally watch Inside No. 9, Mum, Can't Pay We Will Take it Away, etc. But it doesn't have all British shows.

Is slingbox hosting still a thing ? If I needed remote market TV service I would look for that ...
