    I do have another feedback to share. I used this on one of my servers to put accounts in /home2:

    https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=451

    This works great, but if I delete a domain in the Domain Setup area, with "Delete web data" checked, I get this:

    https://d.pr/i/PuvDxU

    So far I haven't run into an issue with a customer doing something that makes this weird, but I'm sure I will. There's always one that regularly goes through workflows that weren't practiced for.

    I would suggest using this feature:

    https://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=2060

    And you can control which home partition to use via the packages. Then you would not get that error, so I am advised... :)

    This is good stuff! Hope you would put priority on outbound spam filtering.

    Hosting providers get sick when an IP gets blacklisted. Once available, it will sure convince some providers to switch to DA.

    In addition to enforced suspension so that the reseller can't unsuspend them, I would like two additional options: 1. Block HTTP traffic only, 2. Block Mail traffic only. Both on a per user/domain basis. It can be done using firewall, but having these integrated will ease the lives of many hosting providers.

    @da_mark trying out the personal license and restoring an account won't allow it as the admin account exists? do we really need the admin account? can we not just login as root? or maybe have 2 accounts on the personal one to cover the built in admin account?

  • @DA_Mark just migrated 800+ accounts. Is there a way to change the PHP version for users from the admin side. Would be nice if there was a way to mass change PHP versions for users.

    Change the default php version using custombuild. Should do the trick.

  • JamesFJamesF Member, Host Rep

    Did a fresh install on a new VPS today using the auto script.... much better....

    But cPanel to da script needed to be added from custombuild.

    Also wondered if anyone had some good skins with nice icons. Currently trying directadmin extended for WHMCS which is pretty good to be fair.

  • @DA_Mark

    Coming from cpanel, below are some of the things I find it very frustrating on DA.

    • Ability to change user passwords by admin
    • Ability to change user PHP versions by admin
    • Ability to change domains by admin

    Right now, to do the above we have to first find the user, then log in as user and finally perform those functions.

    • Evolution theme looks nice but it is crazy slow. To be honest, I have never experienced a SPA (sort of) web app that was this slow. Don't think its my server because power user theme is super fast.

    • The ability to suspend/unsuspend users from SSH/command would be nice, as I sometimes need to urgently ssh into my server from my phone and suspend/unsuspend spammers, abusers, etc.

    Is something missing in admin-level "Change passwords" feature?

    May you send us a screencast including 'network' tab open? Subsequent requests should just download a couple of bytes/kilobytes of JSON, that's it, so, it's really weird :smile:

    LetsEncrypt .well-known really needs to override Site Redirection. When a site redirection is setup LetsEncrypt fails because .well-known is redirected along with it.

  • JamesFJamesF Member, Host Rep

    I agree with the above,

    When doing a lot of work in the panel, from admin to reseller to user, the fade just seems to take forever. As I said before, it would be great when you click on a user account it opens in a new window as the user you clicked on to save all the clicking to get to one place.

    I would also like to see:

    -Change user password, by selecting the cross next to the users on the list. In the main admin screen.
    -DNS record setup.
    -Option to see all emails that have gone into and out of the server over a period of time (mail queues) if they passed or failed.
    -Options to configure overall spam settings on the server.
    -Option to select PHP extensions.

    Isn't that an option you can choose?

    I was sure I remembered something where .well-known gets served from a central folder instead.

    I'm still trying to fine-tune initial installation. I had to rebuild my Inception instance though I can't recall why. The default install/firewall doesn't open the web ports, so admin doesn't work. Once CSF is installed then (of course) things start to work.
    I'm having to rebuild Fran's instance (documenting the steps); spamassassin update fails and the output screen can't be copied/pasted with the proposed fix. running the 'fix' from the command line hasn't resolved the issue anyway.
    The service status shows spamd down and floods the mail queue; I'm sure I disabled it everywhere. Nonetheless I don't have the time/inclination to investigate more, so will just rebuild. The service monitor could do with a disable option, along with the start/stop ones.

    Overall, I'm starting to get a grip with most of the panel but do think all the custombuild GUI stuff could do with being more intuitive. When to do what etc.

    More importantly what guides should be followed, the some (old) forum posts, or piecing together of the knowledgebase? Up 'till now I seem to be flitting between them.

    Maybe, just maybe, updated contents for https://site-helper.com :)

    Did you use 'auto' method for setup.sh? (step #3 from https://www.directadmin.com/installguide.php). That one gets CSF auto-installed.

    Regarding SpamAssassin - I guess you had missing modules on the system, just execute this yum command and it should compile fine then: https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=36. Alternatively, just use rspamd instead of it, as it doesn't require a bunch of perl modules :)

    Any suggestions for that?

    A new KB is in progress, no ETA on it yet though.

    Yes, I added auto along with license credentials. I saw both the link above and https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=2104

    I followed that, with no success and also tried using rspamd, to no avail.

    Any suggestions for that?

    Why so many options; why are they there; when do you need them; any particular order that they should be run in? Your suggestion above is one example: is rspamd mutually exclusive with spamassassin?

    A new KB is in progress, no ETA on it yet though.

    I know that can be the most laborious part and often lags other developments. ;)

    TBH, the less bloatware the better, though I wanted to see what the EasySpamFighter is all about, in action. ;)

    I mentioned this previously:
    Brute Force Monitor is a waste of space by default - I have 100+ messages in the recently installed VPS (glad it ain't spamming!). Even though in admin I have enabled the block IP option, it appears to be ignored due to the lack of integration..
    https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=380
    The instructions in the above link have at least some inappropriate entries, where CSF is used. It looks like the whole of step 1 should be ignored?
    This 'mess' could do with a tidy up, IMHO. Where there is a GUI entry, it really should be fully integrated during the installation.

    Note: presumably the "Enable login failure detection of DirectAdmin connections" now included in CSF, should replace the above, though it appears to be inoperable.

    BFM will add IP to CSF but not in deny file in temp deny. I don't know why it goes that way. I've installed a few DA servers using those instructions and it all went fine. Although I did run https://github.com/poralix/directadmin-bfm-csf.

    @LeonDynamic
    Ta. Forgot about that link.. reviewing.
    I began looking at directadmin logs and wish I hadn't. :-|

    EDIT2: Now I remember why I didn't implement ..

    FTP_PORTS="20 21";
    SSH_PORTS="22";
    WEB_PORTS="80 443";
    EXIM_PORTS="25 465 587";
    DOVECOT_PORTS="110 143 993 995";

    Why? CSF monitors those.. crap, more investigation.

    csf_reconfig()

    Eh, no!

    All this piecemeal stuff does make DA look totally unfinished, IMO.

    ${CSF} --tempdeny "${ip}" "${TTL}" -p "${port}" -d inout "Blocked port ${port} with Directadmin Brute Force Manager" >> "${TF}" 2>&1;

  • Subnote: I set all Login Failures/port scanning to permanent deny - block 'em all! I relent with 60 x 404 errors (temp. block) though, for dumb Google/Bing scanning.

    Cheers. I meant not sure why setup that way in the code and not directly to deny in CSF been looking in the forums etc but can't find the answer. Just went with it in the end and sorted it myself and all seems fine.

    Likewise; seems daft. Glad you got a 'solution'.

    So freakin' sweet.

    I'll see if I can find anymore big things on the "want" list.

    Maybe just CLI controls to restore backups to a reseller? That'd be cool to allow easier migrations. To be fair the UI is good but we're pretty CLI heavy.

    I need to confirm but the only other thing I can think of would be to have enforced suspensions one emails/users. In cases where someone has a phishing site and we suspend it, the reseller can't unsuspend them.
