Remember, for a reseller you get charged for the reseller, and all of their sub users.

If that $2/month reseller has 20 sub accounts, you're spending $1 - $2/month in licensing alone.

    Francisco

if one targets like ebay selling with those mega-super-alpha-master-reseller cpanel accounts with unlimited disk/bandwidth/accounts/etc, then you are doomed

Please read this thread from the beginning and have a nice day.

  • any 1 from Litespeed here? You've such a great Web Server and Cache plugin, why not built a panel with functionality like cPanel? And sell both as a bundle to web hosts?

@trewq this decision will affect us
We have been working for some time on new offer we call it storage web hosting
basically it is premium cpanel hosting with very large disk attached to it .

The pricing for such service wont be affected by 20c/client since it is not 1$ or 2$ per month plan.

I think the rules for posting cpanel offer should have new minimum pricing for example 1$/month and let the users compete using that new rule

by this way all offers that are based on cpanel will be able to exist after pricing change.

We love DirectAdmin but we started working on this project before the new cpanel pricing and cpanel + cloudlinux is still much better solution for a hosting company so even after price increase we accept it as the other options are not as mature as cpanel + cloudlinux

    Thanks

It is probably a temporary thing. I bet this ban will be lifted by end of year, after all the fly-by-night hosts have been hit by the price increase and know how to handle it with their own pricing and/or moving away from cpanel.

The whole point of the ban was to send a message to cPanel, not damage/cripple/hurt providers.

The ban will be lifted eventually (just not now).

By the new pricing policy we were forced to become "cpanel partners" and to our surprise the total costs are increase by only 0.05%. So, on a case-by-case basis, the price change will not affect all users in the same way.

I disagree with this new forum policy.

Reseller offers I understand, as that has been affected in a big way with the new changes.

For regular shared hosting, the impact on cPanel licensing costs is not that big of a deal.

That's a valid point. I think LET is trying to demonstrate their displeasure with the suddent pricing changes. But does Oakley care about LET's policy? Is it on their radar?

  • AmitzAmitz Member

No. It isn't and @Ramnet is right.

I guess enough time has passed, people know what is going on so back to caveat emptor.

Sept 1st is about a month away, I'd wait until then before allowing cPanel offers back.

buycpanel.com hasn't even announced their final new pricing yet.

$34.95 per month at best with $0.10 per-user at best. Not getting any better than that. Assuming BuycPanel passes on the per-user discount.

Well, yes and no. That is true when the shared hosting offer is actually provided/operated by the provider offering it, but not when it's provided by one of those 'unlimited resellers' behind the scenes, in which case the price increase will trickle down to the 'regular' shared hosting offer as well.

coolice said: to proceed with my second idea which is to get at least 1 new server with DA for every product line

That would be a bold move. I am looking for alternatives myself. At first, DA seemed to be a good option. But the lack of usability for end users kind of left me no option to consider DA. We need something that looks and feels like cPanel, or similar. DA is all about links. Clients are not going to like it.

Did you try "Icons Grid" layout (comes by default, just needs to be selected in "Customize Evolution Skin")? It's icons-oriented one

Some hosts used external css on it (it's possible to include it in "Customize Evolution Skin" section: https://i1.wp.com/blog.coolicehost.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DA-DEMO.png)

That comment I made was a long time ago. It was based on my suggestion on a homepage and icon based theme which was not entertained. A lot has changed since.

The way they are working hard, DA does look to be a viable alternative now. I am closely watching the development.

  • How come @DA_Mark has not released theme like https://i1.wp.com/blog.coolicehost.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DA-DEMO.png

Surely that makes sense since many are used to cPanel. I think you would have a lot more customers than you already do if you added theme like https://i1.wp.com/blog.coolicehost.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DA-DEMO.png

    All the best.
