Ah ok, I got two issues mixed up and didn't realize the above was possible. That's not bad at all.

    I am willing to learn.
So how are you using these tiny boxes and why not just spend $5 more and get a "proper" vps?

Why pay for something you don't need ?

Why do you need a dedicated IPv4 address ?

Do you ever use more than 20 ports on your "proper" vps ?

Do you need more than 3 gb disk ? (~2.5gb free after OS install).

Do you really need more than 128 MB memory ?

It’s gotta be an issue on your end then. Try clearing your cache and cookies.

Got through once I was out of the GFW. Probably an invisible proxy on the chinese ISPs causing an issue since you mentioned trying without a proxy or VPN.

Noticing an increased speed when connecting inside the GFW as compared to the previous week. Thumbs up!

Are you using the ssh port assigned to you or the default ssh port (22) ?

    ( pssst, it's 22/tcp. 21/tcp is ftp )

    At first,
    1. log in SolusVM and select your VM
    2. open Serial Console and Create Session
    3. use IP address, port, username and password on screen with ssh then you will get logged in your VM with root privileges
    4. create user and write .ssh/authorized_keys

Any chance of NAT vps in DAL or some other western US location?

Does your web hosting use a control panel, and if so which one? Asking because of the current cpanel drama.

Added: uh oh, I just signed up for it and found out it's cpanel. Well, if you switch to something else, that's fine with me, I don't need cpanel and will be happy to use whatever. I'm planning to play with vesta on a vps just for the heck of it. In fact that's what I wanted the NAT for.

I wasn't able to order DAL webhosting. Something like your order cannot be processed now came out every time.

  • williewillie Member

Maybe Cam just shut off webhosting orders? I was able to get it an hour or so ago. Cam, if you want to unprocess my order that is ok with me. I don't really need it, just was going to play with it a little.

No NAT VPS in DAL at this time. I don't have any plans for new locations yet.

Currently still using cPanel. There will be changes whether its a price increase or change of panel I am not sure yet.

Orders are still open and should process automatically. I have disabled the promo codes for web hosting however.

There was an issue with the creation of new clients. It has been resolved. If anyone was having issues before, Please try again now. Sorry!

PS, I implemented the new calculator that @jixun has created! The welcome email will link directly to the calculator with your server's IP pre-filled in. Should help clear some confusion up with some port questions!

    Check it out here,

donli said: You have to put the webserver at one of the ports assigned to you instead of the normal port 80. A good port to choose is your ssh port +1
so if your ssh port is 2020 put the webserver at port 2021 and you can connect to it

I usually just use the IPv6 addresses to avoid dealing with the mapped ports. Most good ISPs have native IPv6 now, and if you're unfortunate enough to be stuck with an ISP that doesn't support IPv6, just use a HE Tunnelbroker tunnel.
