@KuJoe I think you made a mistake with "$4.99/year":
Edit -- that price seems way too cheap anyway
Fixed! Copy and paste bests me again!
Woohooo! Sign me up!
(Psst, seriously though, you've got a typo there.. supposed to be monthly I guess)
EDIT: Darnnit! I wasn't the first :-(
maybe the title need to be edited also,,,,,@KuJoe
---------Edit-----------------------------
I do find $5/y OVZ in https://backupdragon.com/ , sorry for my carelessnesss
I think there are actually some OpenVZ instances for that pricing here: https://backupdragon.com/
yep, I just edit my comments~, thx
Where is the $5/y offer in the title?
Here
Doh! I completely forgot to include the NAT VPSs in the post. I've updated it to reflect the NAT VPS options.
I do not see India in the country dropdown while registration. How do I order?
We're not accepting orders from India at this time. Sorry.
Saddd
Whoa. Looks like we're joining the notorious B+C club.
I don't blame providers ; it likely makes sense for them statistically, especially with smaller support teams.
All the best Joe.
What's that?
Yeah, we have a policy where if we get over 99% fraud/abuse issues from a single country for a 12 month period we stop accepting orders. I think we stopped accepting orders from India in 2017 but we've made exceptions and every exception we've made except for 1 or 2 resulted in chargebacks or ignoring our TOS. We used to make exceptions for LET members but that's bitten us too many times so we had to put a stop to that also.
EDIT: I exported some data and ran some numbers just to be sure. In 2016 76.29% of orders were marked as Fraud/Abuse. In 2017 100% of orders were marked as Fraud/Abuse which is when we stopped accepting orders. In 2018 we made 14 exceptions and manually processed the orders, 13 of them ended up being Fraud/Abuse (92.86%). This year we've made 3 exceptions, 2 of those ended up being Fraud/Abuse.
@KuJoe no discount for backup account ?
The promo code in the first post can be used for any plan that has a monthly billing cycle. Plans with only an annual billing cycle can't be discounted further, sorry.
BRIC seem to be a self fulfilling label. It's quite sad really.
I feel terrible reading this. That bad eh.
I have an OpenVZ container from SecureDragon since 2014. 64MB/3GB tiny box, used to be my website host, now a personal VPN server.
It's the best provider I used, as they are very transparent: whenever a downtime occurs, there's a tweet. No need to wonder what's going on.
The Wyvern panel has a unique "migration" feature that allows moving between locations. When I hosted the website there, if I detect visitors aren't getting good speed due to routing, I could move the box as necessary.
The drawbacks are outdated OS templates: no Ubuntu 18 or Debian 9.
@KuJoe did you made changes to the backup plans recently?
I was interested in buying one of the following:
25GB Storage | 128MB RAM+vSwap | 1 vCPU Core | 10TB @ 1Gbps | Shared IPv4 | /64 IPv6 | $5/Year
50GB Storage | 128MB RAM+vSwap | 1 vCPU Core | 10TB @ 1Gbps | Shared IPv4 | /64 IPv6 | $9/Year
And in backupdragon.com each plan offers:
25GB 128MB 128MB 1 Core* 100GB 1Gbps* 1 Shared /64 Block Tampa, FL. $5.00/Year
50GB 128MB 128MB 1 Core* 250GB 1Gbps* 1 Shared /64 Block Tampa, FL. $9.00/Year
Yeah, we had to lower the bandwidth significantly a week ago to combat abuse.
@KuJoe how much extra are you going to charge in case of using extra bandwith?
If I may say so, 10TB --> 100GB and 10TB --> 250GB are absolutely huge decreases.
Agreed. We'll probably increase it down the road once our threads disappear from LET and the Asian blogs/forums.
How much bandwidth do you think you'll need? I'm willing to adjust the resources to something else, I was using the formula of 4x the disk space so clients could backup the full disk space amount and still be able to restore all of it 3 times per month. This way we're not losing as much money per abuse case as we were before.
brazil is blocked? lmfao
Correct.
EDIT: I guess I should elaborate on this. We have a policy where if 100% of all orders from a country are fraudulent/abusive for 2 consecutive years we block that country. The exception to this is if the person ordering is a long standing member of LET we'll manually approve the order (except for India, 100% of manually approved orders resulted in fraud in 2018-2019). In the case of Brazil specifically, we had a period of 12 months where 100% of the clients were hosting bank phishing website which resulted in a lot of billable hours dealing with legal issues from multiple different companies and agencies which resulted in us manually verifying all orders, during the next 12 months we received 0 legitimate orders that didn't result in abuse/chargebacks. To clarify, this policy is only for 100% of orders, if we have 1 legitimate client during those 2 years and 99% fraud we will not block a country (we may switch to manual verification or temporary block orders if we're being hit with waves of signups from the same people). I hope that clears things up.
sad had to use vpn to order.
Pure undiluted acid. So, LET are abusers.
whats the unmetered plan shown here? shared/reseller hosting? https://i.imgur.com/o2lGOBw.png
also, can I use that or the storage VPS for running ZNC/irssi/quassel in additiion to cloud storage
VPNs are also blocked. Sorry.
