  • Are they Datacenter grade NVMe?
Can I host database on that powerful server? I guess with DDR4, ECC doesn't matter, right?

    ECC does matter.

    ECC does matter.

I can save some money though xD.

I wonder why usually Game Servers don't use ECC, they have databases on the same servers though.

Could you detail your theory of why DDR4 specifically would make a difference in whether ECC matters or not?

I have an old server for internal Seafile, DDR3 non ECC, the last time reinstalled was 3 years ago. It's still up and running without any problems. So I just guessing DDR4 should better than DDR3, and bit flip percentage should be much lower?

Yes here you have discovered that the lack of ECC basically not an issue.

Well, even if there are any improvements, they will be counteracted by the fact that it's running on lower voltage and with much finer process chips. Overall I don't think there will be any change from DDR3 reliability-wise.

  • @rm_ I have never used ECC for any game servers (just running 3 game servers right now). And they have databases on the same servers. I haven't seen any complain from the users yet.

But I read too many articles saying that ECC can prevent the problems that I can't see. I'm not confident enough to use non-ECC for everything

I have always used and still use ECC for game servers.
I haven't seen or heard any complaints from the users yet.
