  • Nice! That makes the NAT storage 1.5TB for $5.99

  • Ah.. I signed up for three months two weeks back on a 500GB HDD plan in FR.

Anyway, +1 for Wishosting. I am a happy customer. Clearly not oversold with rock stable services.

  • Wishosting were my first love <3

Does this indicate I can use full cpu core 24x7 ?

    1 vCPU core Xeon E3-1245 V2
    Unlimited CPU core 3.6GHz

    Sure...

...or $5 if paid quarterly. I. Must. Resist.

Actually yes, you can. However in Letians culture this is considered a dick move. Neighbors are going to hate you for that. Be realistic.

willie said: It means you won't get suspended for using all the cpu that the system makes available to you. It doesn't guarantee that you get 100% of the cycles that the hardware under your VM can produce. It's still a shared machine, so at some level you're competing with other users for those cycles. Typically if you max out your available cycles for long periods, the VM will get slowed down (throttled) but it can keep running at the reduced speed. How and whether that's done depends on the plan and I don't know Wishosting's policy about this. These plans work best if the hardware CPU is underutilized and you only want to do bursty computations. That actually works pretty well in practice if your expectations are realistic and you make your purchase choices accordingly.

If the cycles on the VM's underlying hardware cores are guaranteed to you, that's called dedicated cores. If all of the hardware cores are dedicated to you, that's a dedicated server (bare metal) or a "virtual dedicated" (v-dedi, basically a dedi running a single VM just for you). Dedicated core plans are available from various hosts but I haven't seen any yet that are really cost effective if what you're after is raw cpu cycles. You're better off with a dedi or v-dedi if you want that. Wishosting has some nice V-dedi plans though I don't know if any are currently in stock.

TLDR: light computation => regular vps should work for you. Bursty computation (sometimes heavy) => "unlimited cpu" vps can be good. Extended heavy computation => dedi or v-dedi is best.

It does, but it is not allocated exclusively.

  • I've been a happy customer of wishosting from early last year. I can vouch the service is no frills no issue no BS. All my tickets were resolved within few hours!

I just wish wishosting has more NAT choice for US west coast.

That is really away from 50%...

    50% of 300 is 150. 150 added to 300 is 450.

    50% of 300 is 150. 150 added to 300 is 450.

This is true only for calculations done in base 10.

(Or "base 0xA" as I like to call it.)

    EDIT2:

For example, consider base 16 (aka hex, or "base 0x10")

    50% of 0x300 is 0x180

    0x300 + 0x180 = 0x480 (which would be 1152 in "base 0xA")

    Or, in octal:

    50% of 0300 is 0140

    0300 + 0140 = 0440 (which would be 288 in "base 012")

So you see, it's not always that simple.

    :)

Wishosting has been great so far. Stable and good value.

Just don't go over their traffic quotas. Got slapped with an extra (surprise) bill for using extra data today.
