Searching a KVM VPS provider or Cheap dedicated servers

Hi there, i'm looking for an affordable KVM VPS with 4+ core or a cheap dedicated server provider.

I need to use it for a layer 7 firewall made with nginx.

One important requirement is that i need a trial of the server in order to check if all is working fine.

Thanks in advance.

@TerensM not sure what your game is here but you seem to have opened at least 5 "request" type threads in the last 30 days ...

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but begs the question: y tho?

    Anyway ...

    Location?

    Budget?

    Clue?

  • Still can't find anything interesting, just some hostings trying to sell something but without any kind of availability to trials.

  • Sirs it must be free

    SIRS

  • Ofcourse no, i just require also a 2h trial just to figure if the server can handle that and right after I will pay without problems.

If anyone have a good option even hourly it's good infact in my last post i mentioned clouding.io

@TerensM - I'm guessing enough providers here have been burned by scammers requesting "free trials" that it will be necessary for you to present a coherent, respectable proposal specifying exactly the activity you intend to impose on their server and IP space reputation during your two-hour "trial" ... so as not to waste their time, or yours, or ours.

    EDIT2:

For example: Will you need port 25 open? Or will you be "testing" only with ports 80, 443, and maybe 22?

    EDIT3:

Because time is as precious as LET is cheap.

I can't see any decent providers allowing some random to smash the hell out of their service for free. A lot of damage can be done in that short time.

Edit: do you have any connection or affiliation with that clouding place you mentioned??

  • heinz burger ? nope ... will fail upon registration.

No, just they are proving a 5€ free credit on registration

What do you want to check, your firewall's functions or performance? You should be able to check whether various functions of your nginx firewall work as expected at your own host. If you want to check its performance, I wonder how you are going to perform this load testing. How do you generate the incoming requests? Will it disrupt the provider's network?

it will be useful to check the performance, the tests will be done with wrk, so no problems for the provider network

Depending on what you do with it ...

I see https://github.com/wg/wrk shows example maintaining 400 open http connections.

(which wouldn't necessarily be a problem. But best spell those details out a bit more, I think).

Just to confirm - okay for provider to block port 25?

Maybe make that clear in your OP and see if you (finally) get some more helpful responses.

I think nocix (and another provider I forget who) offer dedicated server rental for $5 a day, for testing purposes.

If your "need to test" isn't worth $5 to you, then it's probably not worth it to them either.

    Anyway.

Good luck with your multiple request threads.

  • Just to be clear, many providers offer close to what you want, it's called a refund policy. Many providers have 3 day refund policies so that you can make the purchase and try out your application and their network. That's much longer than 2 hours.

I would not like to make 20 paypal transactions just to try the servers

You mean one? If you expect to need to try 20 servers before you find the right one, you're doing it wrong.

You're definitely a problematic customer if you're this irrational.

  • If it's not porn, there's usually hetzner serverbidding near $30. Feel free to burst up to 500mbit.

I doubt you will be pushing 166TB very month. More like 50TB should be acceptable for Hetzner.
