Different types of RAID and RAID levels

One of the challenging tasks of every system administrator is to strike a balance between reliability and performance when choosing a dedicated server. Some might say choosing a rite Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) option and the level is critical, but what is RAID and why is it so important?

No, thanks.
Inaccurate.
If you believe in Raid, you believe in the wrong god.
Kneel down, you disbelieving.
Backup is the only religion, nothing else.
@cirrushosting
Your website is not working, can you check why?

Going for the tag, eh.
The end is nigh on this mob.
Yeah, definitely inaccurate. I thought it was funny the part where it says RAID-10 has 1 disk redundancy. And that RAID-1's read speed is "fast".
Well you're absolutely right, if you are relying on it as a "backup". RAID definitely has it's advantages for a high-availability, and large storage environment though.
Infidel, you chose the wrong religion.
Now, leave this thread.
Backup over everything, amen.
I am currently watching to much Stargate, premium Asgard.
OpiumBackup is the new religion of the people.I remember, back in the day, when it was "Inexpensive" discs i.e. if a disc bust, throw it away/hammer it and pop in another.
EDIT2:
5 x 30MB (thereabouts) discs on a hotswap backplane; enclosed by a case that tripped the power (microswitch) when removed. I kid you not. Allegedly you could lose 2 discs and still rebuild the array - I never tested that.
True.
Should be RAED by now.
Hahhaaha so right
Good luck with your provider tag
Raid 1's read speed IS fast, near raid 0 performance if your implementation/card isn't trash
Nice try but in chrome you see the link while hovering over it
@doghouch we seem to have an SEO spammer or this is a very odd way to try and get a provider tag.
Just curious, will SEO work for shorten link?
Hammer time?
You do in Firefox but I still managed to fall for that one
You are not alone.
I am sorry for the mess I have done
It was meant to be a trap for the OP only.
(I don't know.)
On a charitable interpretation, one could put this thread in the category Tutorials.See my comment below.Less charitably, the OP is trying to draw attention to their services without bothering to get a provider tag.
Well, that was a boring infactual read.
Okay, I'm convinced, I was too charitable! Best to ban the OP. (Short of a ban, a severe warning.)
Snipped out the bit.ly link for now.
Congrats on becoming a mod!
