What is the average data transfer rate of your VPS using scp or sftp?
Have been transferring files and directories (about 250GB at a time) as uploads from a storage VPS at time4vps to a hetzner storage box.
The transfers seem to start out at about 45 - 60MB/s for the first minute or so, then quickly slow to a consistent 1MB/s. Ultimately, the "rest of the transfer" (no matter how long it takes) seems to level out at an average 900kb/s to 1mb/s, with precision, almost like it's being rate limited to exactly that speed.
Have tried both ipv4 and forcing ipv6. Transfer rates and performance stay about the same -- fast for the first minute, then quickly slows for the rest of the transfer.
This happens when uploading directories with multiple files, or one large (100GB) file. Same trend.
What am I doing wrong? Interested to hear what transfer rates others are seeing.
I expected the transfer rates to be faster as my storage VPS at time4vps was upgraded to a 1Gbit port and hetzner is supposed to be fast also.
Anyone familiar with these routes? 1mb/s seems ridiculously slow, all things considered.

Bookmarking as I have the exact same issue from time to time (sometimes its just fast as heck). CPU speed seems to help, getting 1.5mbyte on a fast cpu, and down to like 1.2mbyte on a slow one.
Protocol seems to matter little, although I've run into it more often with ssh, but samba also drops down to similar levels sometimes.
Getting 1Gbit from Hetzner server to storage box.
How is it possible you're getting 1Gbit while I'm only getting 1mbit/s? Are you transferring files with scp or sftp? That's a huge difference in speed...
noob. use rsync
IIRC those have limited IOPS, which may or may not matter. I'd try to falsify your observation with a multithreaded iperf3, from memory and from file, in reverse mode as well, over TCP and UDP

Thank you for calling me a noob. Hope it makes you feel better.
you concentrated on a word instead of the advice. Guess you can't teach anyone anything these days. What a shame.
why so damn negative? Who pissed in your cornflakes. Jeeze.
my apologies. didn't know there is a snowflake here.

Too lazy for SCP now...
@p50 , is your question answered?
I was hoping for more responses...ideally, anyone who has experience transferring files in/out of Hetzner from non-Hetzner VPS's...
I doubt Hetzner is the problem...
I've seen typically 30-50 MB/s copying via sftp from Hetzner storage box (not dedi or vps) to first-root (Düsseldorf), CrownCloud (Frankfurt), HostHatch (Amsterdam), and Inception (London).
Well, shucks. Maybe time4vps is rate-limiting my VPS there. Hope not. Going to open up a support ticket to ask about it. Thanks for all replies.
hostens(time4vps)
Pretty fast.
Omg hostens have the cutest website..
Just to be clear, your response doesn't do anything to solve the problem. Using a different program doesn't solve this problem. So when you are not helpful, don't be a dick when your "advice" is useless and not appreciated.
Even a little ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ hamster can host a website!
Just to be clear to you. Your post is useless and not appreciated so same same. You seem to forget people find you barely helpful as well.
