SolusVM Master and Slave question

I seem to be having a bit of difficulty wrapping my head around the concept of SolusVM Master and Slave license. What exactly does each cover?

I read the brief explanation of the license on http://www.solusvm.com/pricing.php, which states "The First Option is an Enterprise License which allows for OpenVZ VPS to be hosted on your SolusVM Master which is known as a Virtualised Master which you can then add any number of Slaves to this Master for the different Virtualisation Types such as Xen PV, Xen HVM and so forth. The Enterprise License costs $10/month and allows for unlimited number of VPS to be hosted on your Master. "

So does that mean that if one gets a Enterprise license, one has to buy a minimum of an additional Slave license if one wants to host an unlimited number of VPSes?

About the Slave license, it states "The Second Option is a Slave Only License which does not allow for OpenVZ VPS to be hosted on your SolusVM Master which is why it is known as a Slave Only License as it only manages your VPS that are hosted on your Slaves."

  1. Supposing that all one wants is to create an unlimited (limited by node specs) number of VPSes on a single dedicated server, all on OpenVZ alone, can one make do with a Slave license alone on that node?
  2. Is a Master license required only if one needs more than one virtualization type? Or is it required only when one has more than one node to administer?
  3. Is WHMCS essential to provision VPSes, and upgrade or downgrade them; or does SolusVM by itself have such a functionality?

Comments

    1. If you want to use run 1 server using only 1 server, you get Enterprise Master License.

If you want to install SolusVM on a dedicated server or VPS (where no other VPS will be running from your SolusVM master) then get Slave Only Master License.

So if you want the master and your vps all on 1 dedicated server, use the Enterprise Master License.

    1. No, it doesn't matter.
    2. You can use SolusVM alone. WHMCS is more for billing / shoppng cart integration.
  • Thanks, @concerto49, That explains everything.
