Something like,

a.com.ir

i.com.br
...

Are they worth anything, say above average price?

I'm seeing a lot of those available for many ccTLD.

Just shout WOW

    Might not even worth 7.

In fact, I wouldn't take them even for free.

The only way you can increase value of those domains is building a brand around it.

Having said dat, I long for end.is.nigh domain.

nigh.is is available for registration at the price of € 42.00 / yr, with Netim. Maybe you can find cheaper registrar?

You can then create the subdomain, and have it end.nigh.is

Please note that I did not register the domain with a dirty intent of abusing your weakness and sell it overpriced to you.

If anyone is looking to register .is domains, registering it directly from the registry (isnic.is) is the cheapest at 29.90EUR/year.

AFAIK ISNIC does not offer an "official" reseller program so anyone selling it cheaper is doing so at a loss and probably a scam.

Read the official Frequently Asked Questions.

In short: $185.000 for starting an application, (FAQ 2.2) + other dispute and objection costs if other companies want your gTLD + $25.000 yearly if you get it (FAQ 5.7) + $0.25 transaction fee if you have registered more than 50.000 domains per year (FAQ 5.7).
