Need Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP1 License ASAP

randvegetarandvegeta Member, Host Rep

Hello all,

Got a client with a VPS and they have been running an evaluation edition of SQL server for some time now. It's expired, and they are in need of a license.

Anyone selling / leasing these?

Clive

Microsoft under SPLA program only. Hardware operator needs to have the contract if they are a service provider. Anything else is plainly illegal.

You just download the product from your portal account and install it for the Client. Key is soldered into the installer.

    Client installed it themselves.

Indeed, there is no actual key that can be used. It's in the installer itself?

So how do you use your own license when the customer installed the trial version?

Dunno. We always provision it for the Client, trialling is allowed on the SPLA license. You can try to extract the key, no clue how that goes with regards to the license agreement. Could also backup DBs and install a fresh and restore.

You likely can bring the server back online by setting the date backwards to download the copy of the databases for this purpose.

Can you try the above and report back to see if it helps?

    Thanks

    Opinion:

Honestly, SQL Server is not MySQL in terms of complexity. It's more like Oracle these days. If @ExpertVM's step-by-step works, great, but SQL Server really needs a DBA who knows what he's doing if you're into any kind of substantial use.
