LET Provider Register/directory - Find your next host here!

AnthonySmithAnthonySmith Top Provider
edited July 13 in General

It took a while to get this done.

If you would like to be added to the register please post it in the providers section NOT on this post

The order is none specific as it was a bit of a pain to edit the next top provider votes will probably be used to re-order this over time.

Note: Hosts have had weeks and weeks to add their details so if a host you know if not featured on this list it is likely because they chose not to be.

BIG thanks to @FAT32 for the better formatting.

You can kinda do it with HTML --

    HostServiceLocation
    TwonkHostDedicated Servers, ColocationNicaragua
    Mzungu HostingHeadbasket KVMsBamako

But, I'm guessing that once the table gets to a certain size and you're injecting that much HTML code, either cloudflare or the cluster will start going bonkers (ran into similar issues with my July 4th thread).

How about pure Markdown only? (Refer to post above)

Great! By the way, this additional column | <font color="#FFF">.....</font> | is a hack for extra spacing to have a better formatting only, in case you are wondering why

  • I was expecting some longer list. seems many have been ended up in deadpool.

It will get longer now it is in public view no doubt, very easy to miss the providers only section where it was initially..

Why not put it into a db with a frontend for browsing and a backend for registered providers to login. Then have a think about what providers would be allowed to do...

    :)

I'd like to see it as an "official" LET initiative rather than a third-party site.

    • Input from the community
    • A small team of developers from the community
    • Admin access for LET admins & mods
    • Sponsorship like LET -- CC

    Registered providers could:

    • Maintain company info -- locations, datacentres, upstream providers, etc.
    • Post offers -- easily regulated to once a week or whatever.
    • Post news, e.g. new location, new service, etc. Again could be regulated to once a week or whatever.
    • And more!

I am not a fan of manual stuff, I could write the software for that, but for the other stuff such manual provider verification, that would need other voluntary people.

I am very much in favor however the important part is integration as opposed to another site and as LET/B are very much stale and unlikely to get further development that makes integration very hard, if anyone has any technical 'thinking outside of the box' suggestions on how to achieve it I am all ears.

There is no shortage of volunteers.

That said, if someone wants to put something together I will put the proposal in to Alex & Jon, but assume the best you will get will be a subdomain and some links from the main forum site sidebar, minimal interrogation code in to the header.tpl or other tpl at a very big push.

@trewq is probably best placed to have this conversation in terms of scope as he has been successful in getting some extra bits integrated in the past for admin/mods.

If integration poses issues then forget it.

Which leaves a new site as the only option.

Custom-built to fit the VPS industry, managed by a provider co-op -- a group of independent businesses pooling together for the common good: marketing/sales from the provider's perspective, and trust/integrity from the buyer's POV.

The cooperative could start with a core group of known/reputable providers from the LET experience. New members could apply and be vetted by the existing membership.

Love the idea @sleddog! I've got ideas on how we can do integrations without needing code changes to Vanilla. There is zero change of CC even entertaining taking part in this.

I feel like the best thing to do would be to have the ability for it to be seperate (different domain, different login system). This would get more buyin from other provider. But still have integrations to LET, eg. linking account, auto setting of provider & host rep tags based on standing on this new site, news & offer sharing, automatically adding a link to your listing profile in your signature.

I'll open up a thread asking for suggestions on features & if people are willing to help a bit later. I don't have much extra time to code for this but I spec it out, project manage & offer guidance to the people/person actually doing it.

Thoughts? I don't want to take your idea and run with it if you think I'm going to complete wrong direction.

I think your ideas are excellent and my idea is free for the taking :)

From the beginning I'd like to see some clear, up-front statements regarding the purpose & objectives, so as to clearly differentiate it from all the other VPS/hosting offers websites. i.e., provider cooperative (if it is to be that), benefits to providers & buyers, integrity, trust, etc.

    Looking forward to your thread!

The project and website should be independent from LET, CC or whatever else provider.

Nothing against the LET/Hostballs community, they can have as much influence as they want, but keep the providers outside.

They can sponsors stuff, but they have nothing to say.

If you start with that binding again, it leads to shit and ends like WHT.

If the providers want certain amount of features sure, they can get it, as soon its possible, but the project itself should be independent.

Integrating with LET would be hackish but not that hard imo. Just have the site require people sign up with their LET username and require them to put some code on their profile during registration so the site can check it's really the owner of the account.

In the other direction a bot could be used to post updates to LET. For example it could open a Cest Pit like thread for every provider where it publishes deals and updates the provider posted to the site.

Another idea would be to require certain links in peoples signature but i guess that's not really enforceable. Sure the bot could message the user and block access to the site until the link is restored but i doubt it would be very effective.
