CentrioHost - Yet another thread need not to be read but hopefully will save a headache.

Before I start this review I will answer questions before they're asked.
It's CentrioHost are you surprised? No
What did you expect to get with a $5 Wildcard SSL? Not a lot but it did work until I needed it to be reissued.
So you are out $5 why does it matter? Shady business should always be avoided and if I can add one more negative experience to CentrioHost and maybe prevent someone else this headache it's a win.

Alright so for black friday I purchased 3x Wildcard SSL's from CentrioHost. I didn't read the reputation before buying and maybe I should have. After purchasing I had all 3 SSL's up and running within 3 days, so far so good.

Then I moved servers and lost the private key in the process. I figured oh simple the domain is the same and I can reissue it. Not so fast. CentrioHost stated because it was a promotional SSL I could not reissue. That's the first I've ever heard of that and so I asked AlphaSSL if this was the case. They responded they couldn't comment on how resellers handle reissues. Fair enough.

I did some research on CentrioHosts website and came across no mention of this in TOS, Order History, or Order Form of not being able to reissue SSL certificates. In fact I found just the opposite. On the order form for the same SSL I purchased with the same promo code I used it said the reissue fee was free? Huh because that's not what customer service is telling me. So after running around multiple times they have just offered me to buy another SSL at $5.

I guess this is what to expect from a host that likes to offer free warez! I have image links to their TOS, Order Forms, etc because they like to change things on the fly.

Anyway I opened a dispute and will be sure to leave this on every review site I can because again no business should handle themselves the way CentrioHost does.

have you been called a cunt yet by them?

I was actually thinking of that since they just released it. I wonder if it will be frowned upon for a small hosting company to use it.

No but that would make for a good laugh!

Well, your alternative would be using centriohost. From your story I gather they are less reliable than LE.

I meant AlphaSSL assurance vs LE. I love the direction LE is going but need to read up on how the end user sees it.

Business insurance can offer some of the same protection too so it may not be a bad deal at all thinking about it

The end user sees a green lock icon in the top of his browser. That's all an end user will ever care about, if even that.

  • Very few providers from Bangladesh are trustworthy. Once, I had some horrible experiences. They called me and used many slangs for posting ticket's screenshots on WHT.

  • Let's be real, $5 can be a lot sometimes, especially if you're starting a business from scratch. Either way, this is an awful way to treat your customers. As hzr mentioned, usually there are 'red alert' phrases (unrealistic promises, silly guarantees, etc.)

I show OVH using: COMODO RSA Extended Validation Secure Server CA

Personally i'd rather a small business to use any type of SSL apposed to not using any.

I use mod snipped no ssl shills please** for my wildcards - I think they have some of the best prices and they have great reviews. I think the price is reasonable for what you are getting.

  • Lower cost may come with lower expectation. If you pay $199 or even $49 for a wildcard certificate I'm sure you'll get lots of chances to reissue.

$5, however, barely covers the handling fee. I'd rather consider this as "$0 certificate + $5 handling fee per issue" promotion.

    Just my 0.02.

  • I get it's cheap but they did state the reissue fee was free. I filed a PayPal claim and Centrio Host marked it as a dispute preventing me from uploading supporting docs. After running around with PayPal complaining their website was broke, they denied the dispute in favor of the seller most likely because Centrio Host was allowed to upload files where I wasn't. After bitching to PayPal they said I could fax the files I originally wanted to upload and they would rereview the dispute. So I sent all the information in and I'm just waiting for them to respond.

I also noticed Centrio Host was back to offering Warez and so I flagged that to WHMCS and HostBill.

Whether or not I win or lose the claim, I know I did all I could to get my money back. If I can prevent one person from using them in the future I feel it's worth the potential loss to me.

Also Let's Encrypt is working so smooth. I absolutely love the direction they're going.

  • Horrible service. They deleted my fully paid account by mistake because they were having issues with their SSL renewal. They thought I was not using my account and so deleted it. When I reached out to them, they had no backups. I lost my websites and email. All they offered back was one free month of service. I lost 2 websites and all emails and NOT even an apology. All I got back was a statement "We thought this account was dormant and so we deleted it. We have created a new account for you and given you one month free credit. Sorry, but we have no backups"

Crappy service with loads of attitude. Beware. Read the reviews on LET and LEB and you will know how bad these folks are.

OP: So, you were a bit of a dumbass and lost your private key- and they refused to reissue.. for $5. Ohbeekaybee.

Hopefully they could use this thread as evidence of product being vended.

Sorry, no fiestaware. Just nulls and keygens.

    LET needs a keygen.

    @mansoor lololol

Who the fuck doesn't reissue for free? Any legit company will do it for free because it doesn't cost them anything to do it. Centriohost was trying to make an additional sale...

And if they did have strict terms on reissuing why wasn't it anywhere in their terms, order page, etc.

Carry on with your trolling bullshit elsewhere.
