deploy, manage VPS software/API

pablobpablob Member

hi all,
i am wanting to start looking into what is required to build and deploy VPSs on some dedicated hardware. What is the best software/tools these days to deploy VPSs across multiple dedicated hardware with an API that can be used with some billing software like WHMCS. I am more looking to build large storage VPSs if that makes a difference.

Theres SolusVM, https://solusvm.com/ and Virtualizor, https://www.virtualizor.com/

I haven't used virtualizor on the admin side but both have their issues.

They're both fucking awful, but Virtualizor is less so- unless you actually use it as a client. As an Administrator, SolusVM is worse.

If they are both so bad, is there nothing else?

Yes, but nothing nearly as usable, oddly enough. You can do like everyone else and roll your own- or pretend to.

If you build more tooling around it proxmox is an option.

I'd argue it is the most stable out of all other options.

Doesn't have countless bugs introduced in each update

    Is being actively developed

    Open source and easily extendable

The only downside I see with it is that it isn't natively designed for hosting. This comes with some missing functionality, which can usually be easily added into something external. Hence the tooling I mentioned.

    If you're running 20 VPS, it's a great option.

I have it running with over a thousand. Not looking to get into a large argument about this, just sharing my opinion. I simply have my own experience of managing it and it has worked great for us.

Well, that's neat. Scale it up 5x, and we'll talk.

if you wanted to, you could use our opennebula module for whmcs & blesta
https://cubedata.net/opennebula since we are working towards moving to opennebula xen from solusvm xen though the module currently works with opennebula's kvm virtualization, we are working on the xen virtualization though since that will be what we switch to from solusvm doing our xen nodes.
