Revamped Plans and Compute-Optimized VMs on Luna Node

Received this email the other day:

We are excited to announce four recent changes on Luna Node that bring you more resources and flexibility at the same affordable price.

First, we increased the vCPU allocation on larger plans so that they are closer to a proportional increase from the corresponding smaller plans. Existing VMs can be resized to get the additional vCPUs. This substantially improves peak CPU performance for many users. See https://www.lunanode.com/pricing.

Second, we adjusted the plan naming scheme to make our offerings clearer. General Purpose "s." plans replace the SSD Standard plans, and Memory-Optimized "m." plans replace the SSD High-Memory plans. SSD-Cached services are being phased out but can still be provisioned in Roubaix. For API users, the new plans have new IDs due to the vCPU allocation increase; old SSD plans will remain available.

Third, we concretized our fair share policy on CPU and I/O usage so that users know exactly what they are paying for, pushing our platform a leap ahead of other clouds that have vague policies on excessive resource utilization. Read the full details at https://wiki.lunanode.com/index.php/Burstable_Resources. Most importantly, (1) you no longer need to worry about excessive CPU utilization, since VMs with excessive usage will be automatically throttled rather than shutoff or suspended, and (2) you can opt to pay for excessive CPU utilization, bypassing the CPU fair share policy.

Fourth, we launched Compute-Optimized plans that come with dedicated cores. Whereas our General Purpose plans are designed for medium-range average CPU utilization while supporting high peak performance, the new Compute-Optimized plans are ideal for CPU-intensive applications that need to sustain high CPU utilization for long periods of time.

We also rolled out an updated privacy policy (https://www.lunanode.com/privacy) per feedback from our users. The new policy packs additional information about data retention, disclosure, and protection procedures, and provides more concrete details; at the same time, it is much more concise.

We hope to continue to serve your hosting needs through 2018!

Best, The Luna Node Team
