Should add, these promotions are very likely first month only. Similar to how the other OVH branches market "$XX/month promotion" then the discount is removed after the first payment. Just confirm with their billing first.

    Good deal otherwise.

It looks like the price will stick month to month. This is the text at the last step of the order:

Your subscription will automatically renew next month on the anniversary date of the delivery of your service and you will be charged a portion of the $80.00 USD (plus applicable tax) subscription price, pro-rated for the remainder of next month. Your subscription will thereafter automatically renew on the first day of every subsequent month where you will be charged $80.00 USD (plus applicable tax). You may cancel your subscription at any time from within Manager, by submitting a support request, or by contacting us via chat. If you cancel your subscription, previous payments will not be refunded, but you may continue to use the service until the end of the currently paid subscription term.

Key sentence: Your subscription will thereafter automatically renew on the first day of every subsequent month where you will be charged $80.00 USD (plus applicable tax).

Also, right below the price after you click the "Order Now" button you can see the following:

"Next month $80.00 with this configuration"

I was concerned with this as @MikeA noted as well. Looks like the deal is persistent after the first month.

Yes, I did not expect that. Looks like a one time fee. But, much more expensive than the BHS location.

If youre gonna play the long game, after two years those $10 are negligible, compared to providers that charge monthly for IPs.

So, I almost get the same route from home -> BHS and home -> VHV also ping response is the same. This is really weird as the added 1000km distance is not negligible at all. For comparaison, HostUs in WDC got me 44ms vs 24ms for OVH US.

Huh.. I don't think that's physically possible. Over 1000km you're talking at least 13-14ms. They must be using a CDN and you're hitting BHS pop. No way that's going from QC to VA.

@FredQC on this IP I get 14-15ms from BHS. I don't think OVH has figured out how to go faster than the speed of light, so you're definitely hitting a local PoP on that IP. Probably VAC system or something.

    Typically, with OVH, it's 1 IPv4 and a /64 IPv6. I am assuming it's the same for this offer.

BHS is only 11ms from here. Can't say I see any reason to move at these prices, happy with BHS Kimsufi for Plex and OVH BHS for Prod.

@vish For the DDoS protection sure. It's new hardware. My opinion.

Well, assuming full light speed and no routing overhead, etc, the minimum would be ~3ms. Fully ruled out.

Which would put the 0.3ms previously reported at 10x the speed of light, haha.

    🐴 $2/mo 512MB KVM - Unmetered bandwidth. $1.25 for 256GB Block Storage - from BuyVM (aff)

  • damn cheap, great spec

  • Funnily enough, they pulled the offer just 24 hours after they tweeted about it as a "2-day" event:

  • Victim of its success

  • I asked OVH support about it and they claimed that the 24 hour old tweet was merely an "old tweet" that I was referencing... ha

  • They deleted the tweet.

    Very fucking shady.

I like my uptime down low and my servers all hacked. Can see me droppin' twenty-fours with a router in the rack.
Ya like ya Switch-Ports hot and ya servers all hacked. If ya pings real high and ya networks pitch black.

  • They deleted the tweet.

    Very fucking shady.

They explained to me, in a ticket, that the tweet was erroneous - but it definitely would've been less shady to issue a follow-up than to simply delete it.

Nobody on their sales team is around to assist with the issue presently, but they've suggested they might honor the pricing on a single order - but have to wait until Monday to find out.

Businesses need to learn transparency is key.

It doesn't matter if your support fucked up (to an extent, at least in this situation), admit they fucked up, pull the offer, move on.

    Don't deny it.

  • Yeah that's pretty shady. Didn't OVH even reply and confirm it was recurring, only to mark it 'erroneous' and pretend it never existed?

It was up on the site, had a 48 hour deal showing, maybe they just didn't see the results they were hoping for....

Either way, I guess I won't be looking at OVH US for a while, 1.5ms isn't worth the prices. Plus I get 1000Mbps down with my ISP, and the server will only push 250Mbps. No reason to move when BHS is superior in pretty much every way right now from configurations to pricing.

My only guess is they want to keep the OVH US name more enterprise. As these prices are great compared to other companies. Then again, LeaseWeb USA went for enterprise pricing, and their Manassas, VA DC didn't make much of a blip on anyones radar.

My thoughts exactly, I just don’t see ovh becoming anything major in us market compared to what they accomplished in ca and eu

Guess they were pretty transparent when removing the tweet . We have some companies still running offers as recurring and changes price 5x to 10x one week before renewal and it becomes toxic to say that :D
