  • My vote goes towards Antarctica.

Anything is possible if you've got the budget for it.

    Moon

  • https://web.archive.org/web/20160511171456/https://www.exoticvps.com/ pretty much outdated but i don't think there is anything comparable.

  • ISS. Put a server there and forget police invasions! Great connectivity, but could have some issues with enough power to run it smoothly... And if you ever need replacement parts, delivery may take a while.

P.S.: A good thing, though, is that there are 24/7 available remote hands, as you can see in photo

Depends on remote from where. Trolling with Antarctica and Moon and ISS and planets aside -- i.e. if you consider locations with actual LET-priced VPS existing -- I'd say South Africa would be furthest away from where most people are, at least networking wise.

I figured the answer was somewhere in the central Pacific, but Wikipedia says Bouvet Island, which is near Antarctica.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouvet_Island

In 1993-ish I did a University demo as a student where I had people login to all seven continents from one terminal. Keep in mind this was 1993 and there were no VMs or VPSes or even WWW.

The North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia were easy. Antarctica was also easy because McMurdo station had an FTP site. I remember there was something in Africa that was well-known but don't recall what it was. South America was the real challenging one to find, but I eventually found either a Gopher or FTP there.

Constantly surrounded by merchant vessels & the like.

Best bet for most remote would be somewhere in Antarctica with a good bit of ol' terra nullius.

Do you remember when we used to have the yearly cringe of newbies, and then things calmed down after a couple months?

    I miss the old Internet.

North Korea might also work since I am sure they won't give a shit about ... everything.

No really, Bouvet Island is the most remote place on Earth.

Aidan said: Constantly surrounded by merchant vessels & the like.

I don't think so. It's uninhabited and 1600 miles from any other place. Pretty sure it's not constantly surrounded by merchants selling to no one.

    Wikipedia lays it all out:

I'd imagine where you could actually get an affordable vps would be Greenland

That really depends on how unpopular your opinion is. This is the first administration we've had where it's become allowable for people to discuss doing rather illegal things towards our elected officials, and not to have visits from well dressed men in black vehicles visiting.

I know these complaints are trendy, but really...can you name a location in the US where you cannot (a) criticize the government to your heart's content, (b) publish your opinions on any topic, and (c) consume and/or publish all the porn you want?

The Anarchist's Cookbook, the Turner Diaries, etc. are all still in print. There are both TRUMP and IMPEACH TRUMP bumper stickers on cars on my street. I can invite a dozen of my friends to my house to discuss how we're going to start a new political party and oust those in power. I'd be willing to stake my life that if the police came to my home to break up our political planning session, there would be mass outrage and those arresting us would be prosecuted.

Where is the lack of free speech?

Yep. From the east coast of the US, my VPS in ZA is about 265 ms. The runner-up is probably Khabarovsk, RU at 232 ms.

Khabarovsk doesn't qualify as "far away from where most people are" as it's very close to China and Japan, with some direct connections to both. :)

  • If you can get the server to run on 12 volt power, maybe you could install it in that Tesla sports car headed to Mars.

Some enterprise gear can actually run off 48V and 380V DC, including servers. For example, Huawei FusionServer 2288H v5.

Which is perfect, as Tesla's battery voltage is not 12V, but 375V.

Remote hands must be pretty cheap there

White House. You can purchase VPS from Antarctica/Space but you can't purchase shared hosting from White House.

I would have said Heard and McDonald Islands. Same part of the world, although I just looked it up and they're actually 2700 miles apart.

  • DewlanceVPS said: you can't purchase shared hosting from White House.

I think you have way too much faith. You can buy anything from the White House.

Well, depends the earth is round, so its relative where you live.

You have a good chance by using drones, since its in the sky, laws do not apply according to some intelligence.

    CubeSat + Docker?

  • But if you get a VPS from whitehouse, doesn't it have to come with a giant cash donation or something.
Either way, getting a vps from the whitehouse is not lowend.
