any way to cheapely encode?

netomxnetomx Moderator, Veteran

I need to encode some files but I know I can't do that on a VPS. Does someone have some dedis without use?

Thanks!

  • 100% CPU usage for an extended period of time will get you suspended quick with most VPS providers. A $45-55 RTO from Dacentec with Proxmox installed will give you a cheap encoding solution.

    Is it 1 time or regullary? I have a dedi almost idling.

    My mSP is mostly idle too, I can help if it's only one time

  • There is some Amazon cloud service for encoding files

    Yeah, just 1 time

    Thank you :)

    @muzo what specs do you have?

  • MuZoMuZo Member

    @netomx i7-3770, 32GB ram and SATA II hds (~120MB/s)

    We offer rent-to-own servers for $69 per month regularly ($59 per month for LowEndTalk members with promo code). Dual Intel Xeon L5420, 8GB RAM, 500GB SATA.

    @MuZo how can we proceed?

    @BrianHarrison thanks, but here are a lot of places with better prices, and I'm not looking to rent anything more than 9 euro/month. Thanks! :)

  • How large is your file?
    Encoding.com's free and PAYG plans are quite nice so definitely worth checking out.

    We have someone which is encoding on our KVM plans since a year+. Went out and came back a few times, but is still here.
    We reached an agreement to buy 4 cores and use only 3, so it is almost OK, our KVM/Xen servers have plenty of CPU to spare, many nodes stay at 10% or so.

    In fact the node is with you, I will pm you

    @klikli they're expensive for my needs

    I paid with paypal, therefore my order was cancelled a few weeks later when they caught me as a reseller.

    So you are OVH reseller?

  • MaouniqueMaounique Host Rep, Veteran

    Yeah, I bought one, therefore I got to be a reseller.
    That was the charge, i think, if you pay with paypal you are a reseller, that is why the orders have been cancelled. At least this is how I recall.

    Already received and offer, thanks Alexander!
