Sometimes even WHT has deals: 6x400GB dedi for $15

Look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1682953 this.

2x Dual Core Opteron 2220 (Medium) 4 Cores @ 2.8GHz

16GB DDR RAM

6x400GB SATA

$15.00/mo

That's a very nice 2TB if you put those disks in RAID5. Better than say Kimsufi single disk IMO. The two CPUs are roughly equal a Xeon X3320.

when costs like that appear mostly likely they are reseller or a new name of an old possible scam.

btw: right now no one beats kimsufi.

    • do not prepay > 1 year and check for reviews/support

Not bad for $15/m but I don't see how they can cover the power cost. Those old Opterons are pretty per hungry.

It will be interesting when this old drive dies. The new one might not work with the controller.

Them old drives powered on and working for a decade never die. I still have my first non-SH drive of 6 GB and it works.

I'm already 99.99% certain that's Prout as well. Twitter registered this month, site redirecting straight to WHMCS... and of course, it's geographically almost next to where his previous scams were.

Flagged this post for @Jarland to investigate as he'll definitely be able to confirm or deny it.

You would think that would set off alarm bells immediately...but I bet there will be some "SCAM!!!!" threads in the near future :).

  • thread removed, it was a scam, that would not even cover the power for 2 x opterons in the cheapest regions, never mind 4 spinning disks on top of it.

  • So, 12x250GB disks and 2 opterons wouldn't be profitable for $25? What is that "power" you keep blabbing about?

One either knows about "the power" or one doesn't. We have talked too much of it already. This is getting dangerous.

I know how WHT mods work, they have hidden the thread for now and asked for extra information. They don't have enough to prove who he is, but they have tools to track if he is indeed Prout. They got tons of info on him to compare.

This will take quite a while, he won't be able to post offers but he won't be banned yet.

Who da fuck needs power? Prout is powering them servers wireless just like his smartphone!

(And them 6 * 400 GB disks probably are, uhm, "virtual").

They should ask him whether for 5$ more one can get them servers with 10Gb unlimited.

Wow this blew up. I never thought it might be a scam, I thought he got some real old hardware (400GB made me think of the Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 disks which came out a decade ago) at a closeout and put them up for a spin. Really, I just wanted to help the community.

This https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1682348&p=9969049#post9969049 is very funny because that address is up for sale for 53 days now so when he wrote it he was already trying to sell it or just wrote a fake address.

Plus, the annually paid servers.. It's just weird, looks like hit n run host.

What can we do in this case to protect others from this scam? I'll do some investigation here.

Step 1: Do cheap colocation deal.
    Step 2: Disappear with hardware.
Step 3: New name, new company.
Step 4: Cheap dedicated servers (oh look at all this free hardware)
    Step 5: Cheap colocation deal.

Rinse and repeat every 2-3 months. Somewhere in between those items is "Create an account pretending to be a customer from your previous scam who received their hardware back."

There are plenty of threads, search Joshua Prout.

Basically, the guy stole lots of hardware from his colocation customers / had deals going on / pre-paid deals / ran away / he's a convicted criminal / starts many "companies" / flies away with the money / nobody hears from the company again.

Best option is for people who lose hardware to file charges in Houston so the DA has something to work with.
