Idea for a VPS

I got one of the Hostigation Christmas specials just sitting around, and I need an idea for something to do with it. I really have everything that I need already, but I don't want to sell it. Right now, it is just sitting at an install screen with nothing on it. Any ideas are welcomed!

Here's what I've done with my extra VPSes:

    1. Backup other VPSes
    2. Backup important desktop files/data
    3. Backup my backups
    4. Munin server tracking performance of other VPSes
    5. Offloaded mySQL server that imports VPS logs, allows remote SQL analysis
    6. Proxy server to view sites that my employer blocks (like this one)
    7. Create VPN server to access GUI desktop (LXDE is my favorite)
  • LongShot pretty much nailed it... You could also turn it into a webserver; just install nginx or lighttpd or apache+php+mySQL.

  • I already have a webserver. The only thing that I am really missing is a email server. I guess that I could set one of those up on it. I just like using google apps for that. I am looking for something easy/fun to setup on it.

    At Longshot's List:

    1. Already have
    2. Don't have, but use Crashplan
    3. Use desktop for that with Crashplan
    4. Using Openstatus
    5. Don't want to analyze stuff. Lazy.
    6. Proxy already taken care of
    7. VPN done as well

    munin is veeeeeeeeeery nice.

  • I know it is pretty nice. I guess I can triple monitor my boxes for a little while.
