Does Shadowsocks need TUN/TAP to be active?

I'm thinking of getting service from a company. TUN/TAP is not active in LXC plans. I will set up the Shadowsocks server. Does Shadowsocks need TUN/TAP to be active? Thx.

When you talking about TUN/TAP, it's VPN related problem.
However, shadowsocks is NOT VPN.

ShadowSocks is a proxy: it works on layer 7 and thus does not need hardware support.
