XenPower review?

Hi,

I'd like to know if anyone have any experience with XenPower> (by Prometeus)
and I want to know the usable disk space in their XP1G (120GB RAID10) and XP-L (200GB RAID6)?

I'm planning on a hard budget of $100 USD, and will be paying for 2 years in advance. so it'll be $80 USD for two years.
how good would you rate them? how is their network? I specifically choose them because they have Italy datacenter, and my targeted user base is in Libya (where all ISPs peer with Telecom Italia Sparkle).
and how good are XP1G or XP-L for my usage? which is:

-

I'll use debian and setup a seedbox first, and the seedbox to move the files from my HDD to the server (torrent is the only way to safely upload the files to the server since the internet in Libya isn't stable).

after the files are uploaded using torrent, I'll re-install the system and use NGINX to set-up a static website (HTML, JS, CSS) on it, and then serve about 200 ZIP files (avg size is 80MB/file) and about 6k small text files (less than 5KB each).
keep in mind that the files aren't accessed very often, the avg traffic is 500 hit/month and 70GB/month in bandwidth. so there's no disk I/O abuse or overuse.

-

hope I explained it clearly, since my English isn't good.

-

and if anyone is using them, can you ping and tracerout this is IP: 41.208.70.15

Thanks

  • I had a pleasant experience with the 400GB storage line when it launched.

I do think they wouldn't mind bittorrent as long as you NEVER use public trackers. (better to open a sales ticket and ask about your use case)

Also, you'll have to cap simultaneous uploads to avoid hammering limited iops on the shared RAID6 array.
    Try 20-30 for starters.

I suggest you run a test seeding workload and contact support to ask if the current iops usage is abusive or not.

The XP1G and higher would have higher 'available iops' than the RAID6 storage vps.

I expect you'll find a long-term happy home, as long as you're not some warez King. (just my feeling)

Their test IP and looking glass link points towards the Prometeus link : http://lg-milano.prometeus.net/

So I guess network speed will be same.

So, you're suggesting that I use the XP1G (RAID10) because the disk read/write speeds are better?

And ouch, you hurt my feelings :'(

Thanks for the traceroute, can you give me any information about the usable disk space in your server? And the uptime and general stability? I know that I shouldn't expect a top-notch service for the price, but an hour downtime every 24 hours isn't good :p

    Thanks for everyone else.

Actually, around here, xenpower/iwstack is considered pretty much top notch, you should expect 99.9% uptime

    Thanked by 1vimalware

I expect you'll find a long-term happy home ---snip--- (just my feeling)

Try reading it now , without emphasis on 'warez king'. :)

Another quality option is Liteserver.nl 200GB storage-ovz. (only has 256M ram).

I find it more than adequate for the 300GB or so of light seeding I do to maintain my ratios(tune your max_uploads count). (have PM-ed you traceroute and the looking glass; seems only cogent path to libya though)

Apparently, You can still use the 25EGGS code to get 25% off on yearly (should be around 20 euro mark)

thanks for the suggestion, but the other hardware specs are kinda low.

interested in giving me some info? ;-)
what's your plan? how long have you been with them? and how good are they in general?
