Resource pool

Hostmybytes is shutting down their unmanaged vps services, so my resource pool with them is going away as well. I had their olympic pool, which was:

  • 4GB RAM
  • 200 GB HDD
  • 5 TB traffic
  • 5 IPv4, + IPv6
  • $48 / yr

This was well suited for my needs which were:

  • multiple locations in US, and some in other countries too. One instance should preferably be in LA or NYC with Any2 IX connectivity and open peering.
  • start one instance per location. I may not need locations that duplicate what I already have elsewhere, but one instance per location is a guide for the pool size that I need
  • Not IO intensive so I don't need the speed of SSD. Need more HDD space instead.
  • traffic at 20 times HDD space
  • GigE port speed
  • IPv4 (NAT is acceptable) and IPv6
  • less than $10/yr/instance
  • I was with Hostmybytes for two years, and they were fuss-free, worked well, responded to tickets in the rare instances I needed it... Unfortunately they've discontinued the service.

Are there any providers offering similar resource pools, LET-style or close?

  • ImpactVPS is one of the best bets for resource pools.

I'm guessing there was some super LE priced offering somewhere? I see their stuff on their site but it's not great priced.

  • We offer KVM resource pools but not quite in LET pricing. What is the budget?

  • Thanks. I've updated my post with what I'm looking for, and what HostMyBytes offered in comparison.

I went with ImpactVPS. The specs were just a bit less, particularly in storage capacity, but their feature set is much more comprehensive. Check out my thread here. Very satisfied!

Excellent choice. Alex will take good care of you.

  • Go with ImpactVPS. Discounted Pools start at $6/mo for 4GB ram IIRC.

  • Thanks all. ImpactVPS does appear to fit the bill, except in terms of storage capacity. Pity. I've PMed Alex to ask if it's possible to add to it.

That aside, I'm open to other options. HDD instead of SSD could be the key. @vapornode?

    Sorry! SSD only on these.

One thing I can't stress enough is the extended management panel that ImpactVPS offers compared to HostMyBytes. Click the "Upgrade" link, and you can tweak on the fly almost ALL aspects of your VM's configuration without needing to even reboot. Want more RAM? Move the slider. Want more vCPUs? Move the slider. No more logging tickets to tweak settings. This is obviously stock functionality, but it shows that ImpactVPS is certainly not behind the curve as was HostMyBytes.

Totally agree. Alex has invested a lot of time in making the panel as good/feature-rich as it is now .

  • Do you have any plans to provide resource pools on EU? @Awmusic12635

Not yet, but soon, if I am not wrong.

I did ask Alex about the EU location and was told that it's on hold.

Fine! You sold me. I love resource pools but really don't need them with all my colo. Signed up anyway.
