SSL under www not trusted

I've got a domain under Windows Plesk 10.4 where https://domain.com is trusted by Chrome and loads fine, however https://www.domain.com is giving the not trusted page before it loads. Anyone familiar w/Plesk and how it deals w/SSL and run across this before? www.domain.com in this case is an A record to same IP as domain.com. I'm wondering if I should make it a CNAME to domain.com instead but I don't think that would make a difference.

SSL vendor is RapidSSL (Geotrust), and www support is included with it. (I've used RapidSSL certs on many different webservers and OS'es (even OpenSolaris/OpenIndiana ssl cert over java app craziness) and have never had a problem with www before.

I'm not sure how you set it up with plesk but you want to setup a wildcard certificate. When you do the signing request your Common Name should be *.yourdomain.com which will then include www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com Otherwise you need separate certificates for both.

I have experiences with PositiveSSL where they support both www and non-www domain on a single cert. What you need to do is filling in the domain box with your www domain and it'll cover the non-www domain as well.

Say you apply cert for abc.xyz.com, it'll automatically cover abc.xyz.com and xyz.com.

If you're using multiple SSL certificates, make sure both the non-www and www point to same certificate. That's all I can think of, otherwise it should work without any changes.

Yeah, works fine for me too! @twain maybe you should try Firefox ...LOL

  • Twain, Are you create CSR for www. domain name or without www domain name?

If you want to secure both www or non www domain version then you must need to create CSR for www domain name when you buy Geotrust or RapidSSL Certificate

As people have said, you need to create CSR for www subdomain while ordering, and most registrars include the root domain for free in the cert ( except SAN, UCC ). If your CSR is for root domain, you are at loss / can try asking for reissue of the cert.

While the recent trend is to drop using www altogether, you will be definietly pleased to get a new shiny wildcard cert foir $2+ from @CentrioHost. This is the latest booze in town so feel free to jump in ;)
