How and Where to Buy Windows Server 2012 License Pack (5 Users)

randvegetarandvegeta Member, Host Rep

I need a 5 user (CAL) license for a 2012 R2 server I have running.

They are aparantly not available in the SPLA program and must be purchased on a one-off basis.

I have found it available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Server-2012-OEM/dp/B0093CBTOM

But this appears to be an item that is actually shipped, suggesting the license key is not provided electronically and one must wait for the delivery of the 'package' to actually read the key printed on the package. Is that right? Anyone have any experience buying these licenses?

    Windows Server CAL doesn't exist in SPLA.

    If I remember correctly, there's no configuration or validation for CAL in the OS itself, but as usual you will need the hard copy when audit comes.

    @eLohkCalb,

    Thanks. So I guess I'll just order this if the 'hard' copy is the only way to obtain the license.
