    Just sftp...

Have you not considered maybe some of the free storage options like onedrive, dropbox etc ?

  • They probably did consider Dropbox and OneDrive, but neither offers sFTP.

@OP, you should consider a VPS for this, or a Shell Account if anyone still sells those :)

@plumberg: https://1fichier.com/ had a promotion a week ago (much discussed in another thread), but their regular premium pricing is also not so bad (15 euros for 6 months) and the storage space is "unlimited". They offer ftp on upload (but not sftp as far as I can tell).

https://e-nautia.com/ offer an ftp account for 5 euros per month with storage space of 500 GB. (They also offer a free storage account with 20 GB but without ftp access.)

@plumberg: Frankly, for the most flexibility, a storage VPS would make the most sense, but this would require some configuration and maintenance on your part.

Hmm. I thought about that. But I am not sure if I want to get in the Hassel to manage it... Hence I am looking for a simple sftp shell accounts

    Will check 1fichier. Thanks.

    Nah. No sftp access.

    Check out hetzner storage boxes.

...what do you have to manage for dumping / accessing your files over SFTP? If you can SSH you can SFTP...simple.

Traditional shell accounts, to the extent that you can still find them (they've become increasingly rare), won't offer you the storage space that you want.

1fichier.com is probably one of the most competitive solutions for someone who simply wants to back up files by ftp. They received a positive review here (in French): http://nextwarez.com/test-1fichier-com-avis-code-promo/

  • I'm going to throw C14 out there. Cheap and has sftp.

Yeah, but you still have to manage your server: keep it up-to-date, worry about attempts at forced entry, perhaps even DDoS attacks. In practice, it probably would be easy enough, but it's also understandable if someone would prefer not to have to worry about these things ... it's much easier just to have an ftp account and to let someone else manage the server.

Thanks for reminding us of C14. :-)

The main thing to note is that C14 is for a (cold) archive, not (hot) storage. See these threads:

    https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/86313/online-net-c14-cloud-archive-service

    https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/107439/online-net-c14-intensive-5-eur-per-tb

    https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/102612/online-net-c14-backup-question

If the OP is just an ordinary user who wants to back up files using ftp and to be able to retrieve them easily, C14 wouldn't be the best choice.

OVH object storage perhaps? $11/T/mo, OpenStack Swift interface. Not the same as their cloud archive storage.

I'm resurrecting my old shell service for a couple of friends I haven't setup billing etc etc so can do a free trial in return for some feedback on it as my original setup went long ago so having to start from scratch again.

    Hello,

We have an online storage service in France, 5€/100 Gb.

    https://www.ikeepincloud.com/en/accueil

SFTP is one of the available protocols.

  • See: https://www.hetzner.de/ot/hosting/produktmatrix/storagebox-produktmatrix

(already mentioned by @drdrake earlier as Hetzner storage boxes). Suits your needs perfectly (IMHO).
