ASN/GeoIP lookup?

KobeKobe Member
edited April 2017 in General

I'm currently using IPLookup.flagfox.net but it seems to be rate limiting me with a Captcha pretty often so I'm looking for an alternative.

Does anyone know of a similar online tool that explicitly displays the AS, the ASN and Geolocation of IPs without rate limiting or a Captchas? I'm also looking for tools that can convert A records/URLs to IP addresses in particular.

    I should probably be clearer.

I'd ideally like to be able to input a web address such as google.com and be able to see the resultant AS and Geolocation.

    Thanks anyways though.

ipinfo.io is the best site for that. It's always updated too, it doesn't use a database.

It looks really nice but it seems to be IP address only :(

Just resolve the domain in cmd, or use a tool?

I could, but if I needed to do 12 queries on URLs, why would I want to necessarily resolve 12 URLs by adding another step to the process?

It seems like a pointless addition of time for no gain.

    I use https://iplocation.net

There might be captchas sometimes though.

  • https://www.dan.me.uk/ has a bunch of cool tools.

They also have a Chrome plugin you can use for a 1 click lookup.

For linux you can install dev-libs/geoip (iirc it uses free maxmind-db) and do geoip-lookup yourself in simple script. Then you are rate-limited only by your hw...

    I use http://yourip.xyz (json api)

Might be a functionality we can add to bgpview.io ( https://bgp.li ) - Resolving domains is just a rather high security issue.

  • ipinfo.io show

    Network AS JJJ
    City Moscow, Moscow City, Russia
    Latitude/Longitude 55.7522,37.6156
    Route 1.1.1.1/24

I could have sworn that once upon a time you could get all of this info from NetCraft.

You might want to add the ability to insert your own IP by pressing a button (or anything similar). Just a suggestion.

I use http://bgp.he.net/ it's amazing and what I've gotten used to over the others.

It can resolve A records to IPs and to the ASN, it can list statistics on TLDs, give full ASN information and BGP routes and peers and prefixes, and more in a nice column view.

The problem with some online service that resolves the URL for you is that they might receive a different ip for your site than you would, due to geodns and all that.

For client access, you can use http://ipaddress.my for ASN.

For database download, you can download it from http://lite.ip2location.com

    try ipinfo.io or ip2location.com

What I have noticed that some IP addresses database is out of date and some websites shows 4 different sources and normally one of them shows incorrect information. I think the most uptodate database is directly from ripe.net
