Need 16 GB Server (KVM VPS or Dedicated) for 1-2 Months

emgemg Veteran

I need an unmanaged server for one to two months. I will be installing and running commercial software for product evaluation testing. Can you provide a KVM VPS or Dedicated Server that meets my needs? The specs are:

QUOTE #1:

  • An ordinary KVM VPS or dedicated server is good. We don't need special performance enhancements such as pure-SSD, etc.

  • 2 Cores minimum

  • 16 Gbyte RAM

  • 120 Gbyte storage

  • Bandwidth is not an issue. The typical 1 Tbyte of internet network data per month is good.

  • Access to the Debian 8 64-bit NetInstall ISO disk image for operating system installation.

  • IMPORTANT: I may need to re-install a fresh, new operating system more than once during testing. The customer (me) must be able to control mounting, booting, and operating system installation from ISO images. In other words, the provider must NOT be necessary to reinstall a new OS. This requirement may be more applicable to dedicated server providers.

QUOTE #2: Same specifications as above, except with 8 Gbytes RAM.

QUOTE #3: Same specifications as above, except with 4 Gbytes RAM.

Thank you!

    Budget?

  • How about KVM on a full E3 dedi ? You can reinstall your OS on "the fly" ;-)

Budget: Reasonable offer. I hope to keep it under $50 a month.

I did a quick search, and on a few very well-known, reliable providers, $80 per month seems to be the "center" with many of them much higher. The dedicated servers cost a little more, too.

A dedicated server would be ideal, but I worry that many dedicated server providers do not include an easy way for customer-managed wipe and reinstall of a new operating system.

A VDS should be ideal then, look at what I've mentioned.

Thanks for the mention... yes they come with mountable netinst isos, console and whatever you need to reinstall yourself. you can also do snapshots which might be useful. But keep an eye on contract term length and cancellation periods.

Tossing in some order links which are cheaper then the ones directly listed on their page ;-)

    It's AMD (9GHz 16 Core CPU), Intel's i3 can out perform it.

i think you missed the point. what i meant was the stackable core to make it run at a higher clockspeed. 6.8Ghz is quite likely a 2 vcore 3.4Ghz.
