WHMCS introducing tier based pricing on reseller program

ExonHostExonHost Member, Provider

Just got an email from WHMCS. They are introducing tier based pricing on reseller program.

Dear Valued WHMCS Reseller,

As you may already know on Oct. 3rd, 2016 we announced the introduction of a tiered pricing structure for our direct license customers.

Following the announcement we have had the opportunity to reach out to numerous reseller partners, as well as collect direct input from all our clients. Based on this feedback we will be introducing the following changes to the Reseller Program.

Beginning on July 1st, 2017, a tiered pricing structure will be implemented for resold licenses as follows:

Up to 250 clients No change 251 – 1000 Clients Your Volume Base Price + $10 1001+ Clients Your Volume Base Price + $20

Licenses for over 251 clients include no-branding as standard.

We would like to note that your current base price, which is determined by the volume of resold licenses you manage, will not be changing.

For example, here is the resold license purchase cost for a reseller whose volume is 2nd level pricing:

- License up to 250 Clients with Branding - $12.80 (No change)
- License up to 250 Clients with No Branding - $14.80 (No change)
- License up to 1000 Clients with No Branding - $22.80
- License over 1000 Clients with No Branding - $32.80

During our consultation period, maintaining a direct relationship with the license holder was a top priority for resellers therefore these changes were designed to ensure that can remain.

We will be publishing new API commands that help you track and determine when licenses are approaching their client limit. If you are using the WHMCS License Manager, these new API commands will be incorporated in order to automate the license upgrade process. Additionally, based on your collective feedback, the License Manager will receive other features that improve and simplify license management. The new API commands and the updated WHMCS License Manager will be available at least 30 days prior to the introduction of the new pricing structure.

We truly appreciate you as a reselling partner and look forward to your continued success.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]

Sincerely,

WHMCS Reseller Team www.whmcs.com

    And they said:

    • "Please raise prices"
    • "We're making too much profit and want to share some of it with WHMCS"
    • "Our costs are too low"

...yeah right. I always hate when companies try to take their decisions and cast them as "community input".

@raindog308 that was my thinking exactly, just further examples of them not really caring about customer requirements and only taking suggestions within their own echo chamber.

Somehow no branding is valued as a premium extra why is it not just $2 more for both but I'm not really sure what alternatives there are or even less those that are open sourced that don't have security holes in them.

    Hostbill is $999 one time

My WHMCS costs every year with the new pricing: $958.80

Money saved over the next 3 years if I switch now: $1877

I also heard that Hostbill may start offering monthly licensing soon.

I dont think that WHMCS will stay for long in this price range, this is not cPanel.

Thanks. I guess HostBill is expensive if you're trying to start a hosting company on $100, as a few people will be doing in, oh, another quarter or so...

I hope this will bring more competition in the game. The shift in this billing system market is a good trend.

    They screwed us really.

They threw us on a crazy tier of pricing, supported our marketing by giving us some benefits and first month free on new licences for a period and said 'Push WHMCS to your clients, push it hard, we'll help'.

They consulted us on a price hike last year and we said categorically that it would not be acceptable. Their reseller account manager insisted they wouldn't do any hikes for at least 12 months.

So here we are, a large number of resold WHMCS licences in a short period of time and they screwed us and a bunch of other providers.

Knownhost seems to be using Blesta and is also sponsoring development. Sounds to me like the right choice. Invest in a solution.

Hm? The base pricing is not changing at all (for <= 250 clients), that was just an example for the 2nd level volume pricing.

The pricing for 250 clients or less with the highest volume discount (55%) will still be $7.20, and then +$10 for 251-1000 ($17.20), and +$20 for 1001+ ($27.20).

You're going to be paying $79.90/month? How did you calculate that?

I don't see how the price changes will be the "end of the world". For most resellers, less than 10% licenses will be affected and the base price will remain the same.

I'm assuming because $79.90 is $39.95 * 2, the amount of WHMCS installations he has?

This is going to be interesting.
