Here is an active non-HackForum discussion about it and here is another.

HF is probably the worse source to link to, I stay away from all that nonsense. Requires an account to view the thread on the HF site and in the past wouldn't allow VPN connections to access it forcing you to use your home connection. No thanks.

Basically any non US controlled payment system will be deemed money laundering since some people may use it to pay for child porn or drugs.
It does not matter that dollars are used for that too, the us government will never be liable for the crime rings that use their currency, and this is how it should be.
We will see how Bitcoin will be handled, probably the exchanges will be targeted, they should operate in countries outside of US control.

LR is one of the shadiest payment processors I've had the pleasure of knowing about, ever. That being said, and in my own and entitled opinion, this is a blessing. It could potentially eliminate some providers who cater mainly to people who can't, for whatever reason, use PayPal/2CO/etc.

Crap, what's going to happen with my ~$7 in there...

  • Did LR get caught for causing issues with Dewlance?

  • rds100rds100 Member

@concerto49 it was not LR's fault, just Dewlance used some known scam third party exchanger.

  • @rds100 I knew that. :P

At least 5 countries either use the Euro or USD as official currency without the EU/US supporting that (Ecuador, Panama, Liberia, British Virgin Islands for USD, note that all are tax havens - Montenegro for EUR, a wide drug/smuggling hub)...

From my guess Webmoney will take LRs share of the market now, they are bigger, more protected (it's basically owned by a few oligarchs) and easiert to exchange (depend son source tho)

The name servers of the domain are

    ns1.sinkhole.shadowserver.org

    ns2.sinkhole.shadowserver.org

and shadowserver.org is a foundation, that researches internet security.

I think someone is just setting this up.

If I'm not mistaken, the above NS-es are usually assigned by the Feds to take down a site in question.

As someone I know in the intelligence business once told me... "disinformation is a powerful tool". With this in mind, let's now jump to the banking sector. If the biggest banker in the world can be forced to step down, realize the forces at work. Start with the biggest picture you can envision and work backwards. Understanding currency and its history, its role in the rise and fall of powerful entities, why is there a myth of who started Bitcoin?

lol.. seems this news is rummer...

Libertyreserve nameserver is pointed on shadowserver.org and It seems LR hire them for scanning virus/botnet,etc..

  • When it comes down to it, you need to consider MLATs between the US and the country you are doing financial transactions with. There are only a few remaining, with Panama recently cleared up. A good rule of thumb about detecting MLATs between the US and the country you are interested in is to see if Paypal does not allow a business account setup there, such as Guatemala. If they do not allow a business setup, most likely US does not have MLAT with that country and in my example Guatemala does not have one.

Good luck on setting up there, it's terrible and won't work in most circumstances.

Costa Rica had none for a long time.

Reminds me of when Paypal cut off Panama then the US/EU MLAT with Panama was announced after some "money laundering" report was released, shaming Panama.

  • well i had about 2k in it which ive accumulated from various dealings. Not that it matters to me(i make way more)because i have no idea how to withdraw it.

that 2k is as good as gone even if LR is still around.

I have a 1k in LR ;/ but I am happy because of one of scammer scammed me $500 and now he can't use my LR money ;)

  • JacobJacob Member

That's how I feel, I hate exchanging money because of the fear of getting scammed. But I'm not gutted or worrying about it at all, I guess it's just the risks of having money in gateways like Liberty Reserve.
