Plz help me getting a VPS

Hi Guys,

I am looking for a VPS with US IP for web surfing, watching and downloading movies

Requirements:

Fast Internet

No Lagging, i was using kvm before but there was so much lag, can't open more than 1 tab in IE, so i had to ask for refund

Budget = i dnt care about HD, RAM, Cores, just looking for VPS which runs smoothly without lag and i can browse websites and watch movies with fast internet, so, assuming, 1-5$ monthly

Thanks :)

... install openvpn in your vps and solved your problem...

I don't think you should go for a VPS, find a VPN service, like this one

  • can i get a fixed US ip with vpn?

and is it safe, if i install a vpn on my pc, and surf sites with US IP, can they find out that i am using a vpn?

I would recommend RamNode or Ipxcore.

Servitor.io - Server and website monitoring. Free to use!

  • i live in Kuwait,

i can't access offers on few sites, which are only available for US

Buy the $2/mo plan it's an unmetered 10mbit so you don't have to worry about bandwidth..

    http://www.vpscheap.net/linux-unmetered.aspx

Then follow this guide so can tunnel with putty..

    http://www.dotcomunderground.com/blogs/2008/12/11/putty-ssh-tunnel-to-hide-ip/

    Lag free surfing/streaming!

Forget the title.. just folow the guide it allows you to tunnel with putty without having to install a VPN on you VPS, you then can use your local web browser for surfing or watching hulu, you can also get a UK IP and watch iplayer etc..

This will give you a better experience than RDP'ing to your windows server..

    SSH encrypts the traffic.

10 mbits is enough for streaming?

and which shld i go for (Ubuntu or Centos)?

i hv used only windows and hvnt used other OS, for windows, we have to install java, flash player, .net framework etc, to view advanced websites...is it same for these OS as well?

If you are tunneling with putty then even a 32MB VPS is fine.. it will be lag free for sure and go for Debian..
  • @earl

ok taking 2$ /m plan from vpscheap.net, i will go for Debian and then follow the putty guide...

    last few questions:

10 mbit/s wld be enough for streaming?

i want to have only 1 US IP, which i want to use daily, because if i visit the sites with different IPS or with hidden IP, then my account will be banned, so, tunneling with putty, is it safe and i will be with same ip everyday?

Depends on the content you're streaming and your connection speed. Generally, it should be enough, if you can get the full 10 Mbps.

You will have a static IP when you buy a VPS, so if you tunnel through your VPS, your IP will not change.
  • Thanks earl, black and every1 :)

If you're just setting up a proxy/VPN, no.

No. You only install openvpn on your VPS and that's all you need.

If you follow the guide you don't need to install anything on your VPS, it's ready to go since you will be using the web browser from your computer, just setup putty and your local web browser for proxy and you're good to go.. just give it a try first you will see that it works quite well..

Passwords do not show up on putty, when you type it. It's there but doesn't show up so make sure you enter it right or paste it and hit enter

  • Why don't we just help him set up OpenVPN? Would be a lot easier than all this SSH Tunneling and Squid and stuff.

Squid is the devils work, abuse magnet, that is unless you block all IP's but your own.

Squid is easy (basic yum and change port, access list) or few seconds more with authentication. PPTP takes about a minute.

Whilst OpenVPN is more flexible, all the OP wants to do is browse US sites and doesn't need all this setting up with keys and crts

  • got it working, just had to change the root pw from solus cPanel

    ok now:

connected my vps with putty, and using firefox with vps ip on my pc

so, is it safe now? surfing on my pc with vps ip using putty?

net speed is very slow :(

Your 1650 miles away (approx) from the download server, use a location closer to your VPS. Either way, browsing should be fine.

  • @TheLuckyBoy, where is your VPS located? You are in Kuwait. For the best browsing and streaming experience get a VPS that is near to you like INIZ as they are in NL.

    @serverian

yes i am in Kuwait, and i think VPS is located in Canada...

i am a newbie when it comes to VPS...

Just wanted to get a VPS with Canadian / US IP, so i bought this VPS, but i think this will work for web surfing, atleast its lag free and i am using it on my own PC
  • the only problem is now speed of the internet

is it due to putty or shall i contact my host regarding speed?

    @Ishaq Try wget http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test

whats that and how i am gonna open or run with?

It's just a file to test your download speed.
  • Your connection speed will mostly depend on your geographical proximity to your VPS provider. Is a matter of latency and jitter. No matter how fast your provider is, if you are far away from the VPS it will most likely give you a bad experience. A 1Gbps provider uplink is never going to be a bottleneck for your purposes.
  • upfreakupfreak Member
    speedtest from cachefly -> azzavps is 3.03MB/s ( 20mbit unmetered )

I use http://www.bitvise.com/tunnelier when i dont want to configure the server for VPN access but do not want to configure putty everytime.

    1. Install the bitvise software and then input the hostname, ssh port number, username and password in the Login Section.
    2. Go to services tab and enable local SOCKS proxy.
    3. In your browser / application which needs to be routed configure proxy as set in bitvise. ( hostname : 127.0.0.1 ; port 1080 ; SOCKS 5)
    4. You will enjoy your native internet as well as proxied connection for applications that require them

I have tested this to work with a 128MB azzavps i have for testing.
  • Thanks peppr

i want to make sure, is it safe for surfing? cuz i have used proxies few times on my pc, by they found out and banned my account

by using bitvise or putty, if i go on those sites, will it be safe for my accounts?
